Acadian consoles

I've worked on this mystery before but now there is likely many new Acadian members here who have not seen this and can possibly contribute to solve this.

Acadian consoles for 65 66 and 67 seem to come in a variety of configurations with no apparent pattern.

One variation is the front of the console on the angled up part on top.  It can be smooth, dimpled or dimpled with rivets in the dimples. If you have an Acadian console, (please, no Nova consoles) please take a picture of it and give details about the car. (year, build date, auto or manual trans console). Sorry for the dimpled sample, it's the best I have right now. If someone has a better pic, I could sure use it.

Riveted

Smooth

Dimpled

The second variation is at the back. Some have a screw that goes in from the back towards the front on the console. It's on bump cast in to the console base. Others have no bump, no screw in from the back. Same thing, please post pictures.

If you look closely at the backs, you can see the difference here.

do you think they had a bunch with the holes in them for the emblems.. and then put the rivets in to fill the holes when the emblems werent used?

I missed this post the first time.. so if someone else said this already.. I like the way you think..

I wonder... It makes sense.

I bought a console out of Washington state, the one with the rivets. I just assumed it was a Nova console that someone had put rivets in to close the holes. Since then I've seen two more with identical rivets. Now I am very sure that I actually bought an Acadian console out of the USA!!

The back part of the consoles is still a mystery. A few years ago it just happened to work out when I was doing some console trading/shuffling to end up with what I needed that I had 4 65-67 units at the same time. That is when I noticed the variations. I've owned a number of consoles over the years in various Novas and Acadians without realizing they weren't all made the same.

I know my first 65 SD I had in the mid 70's had the dimples in it, no holes, no rivets. I have a couple of old pics of it.

Bottom line is, it seems that at least in 65, an Acadian console has 6 variations!

Top smooth, no back hole

Top dimpled, no back hole

Top riveted, no back hole

Top smooth, back hole

Top dimpled, back hole

Top riveted, back hole

The parts book has been no help at all either.

Not really any info pertaining to this issue, sadly no.

Yes, I had seen that. I think it was on Steve's.

And the best part is, there's a new home scheduled for all 3 of them (2 of them are Acadians too!). Lots of gear banging in the future!

I added a picture (although not a great one) of the dimpled console top.

The auto console from my 65 SD had a pair of dimples.....

Thanks for your input. It seems like I've seen more dimpled 65's than smooth or riveted. The riveted seems to be the least, I think I've only seen mine and two others. The smooth one is from my own 65 SD, the auto console I will be removing.

Just in the bottom corner you can see another one of the riveted 65 consoles. This one is an automatic.

Found a little better picture of my console with the rivets, but uploading it this way has  made the picture quite small compared to the original...still tough to see.no

Can you zoom that one, print screen, paste it into paint or something and then repost the zoomed part? I'd like to see it closer.

This is a little better.  Next time I am home, I will get a decent close up picture on here.

Hmm, can't quite see yet. I want to get a good look at the rivet. The two other's I've seen close up, (one is mine, one is a picture) show a bit of a unique style of rivet. It's a domed head in a countersunk hole.
