Man that's tough to hear, just takes the wind right out of you. It makes you feel like you really knew him just through his comments and replies. Condolences to his family and also to you guys who were priviledged to have met him and called him your friend.

Only ever met Hillar but once - at the CP BBQ. He seemed knowledgeable, funny, sincere and a bit opinionated ( in a nice way ).
Like everyone else on here I'm going to miss him.
It appears that yes - the good do die young.

Count me in on the group endeavour. PM me.

Ted

I just logged on and read the terrible news.   I first talked to Hillar in the mid 90's as I got his number from Shea Eady in Burlington, he had the Red 70 454 Wagon that ended up going to Dave Wach.  Shea only had Hillar's #.    Years later, after joining POCI I called Hillar as he had some parts listed in POCI's Smoke Signals, and after talking for a while I put two and two together and realized we'd spoken before.  We met for the first time at POCI Grand Rapids in 2000.

A long story short, Hillar was out here last summer to take a look at the "Alternate Green Monster", my green/gold 70 2+2.  I was on vacation, and showed him around a bit, and he stayed the night with my wife and I.   He was a bit taken with my dog, and he snapped the photo of my dog that I used as an avatar for quite a while.  We were able to put together a deal, and he took delivery of the car mid
Sept, and got right to work on it.

We'd talk once a month or so, mainly about cars but also about the TV show "Mad Men", and about how much he loved living in Toronto & Ontario in general - a bit of sarcasm there.

Hillar was a good guy, a car guy, and a pal.

OMG I'm blown away with the news. Still trying to catch my breath, of course count me in if we can do something as a group. Met Hillar at the poncho BBQ at Arcadian's (Chris's) in Chatsworth, liked his attitude , right up front.

This sucks. I just got back from a funeral of an old neighbourhood guy and this news really hurts again.  I didn't know him but I read alot of his posts and he was your typical Canadian Poncho guy, modest but eager to share what was going on and what he knew.

I'd like to contribute something too, if that's possible.

I guess the rest of us better get on with living every way we can.  You never know when.

Boy reading Clint's post about his dog really strikes a chord. Our dogs are Airedale Terriers, also known as the King of the Terriers, some people just call them Terrorists, most people who come to our place just run the other way. Not Hillar. He could tame the old beast Abbey and the last time he was here on Dec. 30th our youngest Penny just sat in his lap the whole night, snuggling up and providing the odd face wash. I think she like him because of his whiskers! He loved her too! I had forgotton about that until Clint posted, thanks for getting me to smile a little tonight Clint.

I had the occasion to listen to this song already today.  I find it kind of comforting when you are hearing news like this. Hopefully you will too.  Its the incomparable Alison Krauss.

Pardon me if I'm posting too much. Have a look at the photo. Once we put our cars in storeage side by side we noticed something about our Historic plates. I posted two photos together to show it.  What are the chances of two friends with two Pontiacs getting plates with the same numbers?

You can never post too much

Interesting how God gives us those blessings biggrin

I know, we will always remember him as a "pioneer" on this Historical site....

Absolutely. I was regularly impressed by his automotive knowledge.

This is terrible news. I did not know Hiller, but clearly he touched a lot of hearts on this board. My heart goes out to his family and freinds.

I am shocked. Count me in. We had a great time at Barrie this past fall as he spent the better part of a day at our booth, having a few drinks and taking parts cruises on Paul Richers Tim Horton bike. This has hit me like a ton of bricks.
