Very sad. I'm shocked. Although I never met Hillar, I felt I knew him through his posts. I really liked his contributions to this forum, and website.
My sincere thoughts and feelings, Darryl.

As is normal in situations like this both the Coroner and Police are investigating. Detective Cox at Toronto Police 54 Division has said that Hillar died in his bed, his blanket was half draped around him and that they think he woke up, tried to get up, had a heart attack and died instantly meaning that he wouldn't have suffered.

Will post more details once we learn of them, specifically any funeral or memorial arrangements. cry

Thanks for the update   I hope he did pass suddenly...

Its alway a reminder of how things can change.

Like the lives of those involved in our fire. (clinton)

and a neighbor/friend of mine for 35 years just heading to Florida with his 35 'RV  and had heart attack in Cinncinati and got a "shunt"  friends drove down, and brought his rig home..  He will survive...    Hillar didn't

Thanks Ray. There is a lot of comfort in knowing it was quick for him. I kept having the thoughts of him not being able to get to a phone for help and suffering.

January 12, 2010

I am sad to announce that Hillar Pinna has passed away. Hillar started his career with Noranda Exploration Company in 1988 and has been with the Xstrata Copper Canada division as Legal Counsel since 2006. Hillar loved the mining business. He had a keen interest in exploration dealings and covered a diverse portfolio from exploration to closure. Hillar was dedicated to the company, always had a positive attitude and always willing to help. His interests were diverse. He enjoyed skiing, sailing, sports cars and his partnership in The Pilot. Hillar will be greatly missed. We will provide funeral arrangement information when it is available.

One thing I was thinking about this afternoon.

When it is my turn, I would want CP to celebrate the fun I've had on here. I am guessing Hillar would be the same. Because of that, I promised myself I would pick my head up and think about the things he and I discussed and the laughs we shared here.

While it's easy to focus on the tragedies, it's more beneficial to all (including the departed) to focus on celebrating what has been.

I seldom login to this site and I'm not sure what prompted me to this evening. I am so very, very saddened by the passing of my friend Hillar Pinna. Whenever I saw that Hillar had posted, I immediately clicked on whatever he had said to see what his view was. I've known Hillar for roughly 20 years and have counted him a friend for a long time. He has been at my home many times and even showed up one time with a number of Pontiac enthusiasts from Florida so that he could show them the differences between our cars and their cars. Hillar was a true pioneer of collecting the Canadian marque of the Pontiac and, back 20 years ago, it seemed he knew everyone in Ontario that had an interest in them and somehow, all of the rest of us that had them, revolved around him as the centrepoint of the collectors, ie we didn't know each other, however we knew of each other through him. What I think of most with respect to Hillar is that he had this most incredible passion and enthusiasum for the marque that was so contagious and addictive when he discussed these cars or stories of them with you. He was also so very interesting in discussions on any subject whether it be politics, the environment, the state of the world, or whatever; he was well versed in all aspects of life and his views were always well respected. My sympathies go out to all of his family and friends as this is a great loss for anyone that knew him, and I suppose, a great loss for those that would have in the future. Doug.

That's a good photo Carl, see what a good friend I am, I introduced Hillar to Cheryl, he had only known her since mid September but it looks like they hit it off!
