Ray and I have been discussing what would be a fitting tribute to Hillar. Renaming the general full size forum is a good idea. What do the rest of you guys think?

We talked about Hillar quite a bit today. I think Hillar would have really enjoyed being with us today and perhaps he was in spirit.

Well, how about instead of a car of the month for February, use the poster that 67Heaven has for an avatar. Just an idea. I never met him, but those of you who did were impressed by him as a person. It would be a nice tribute.

John

Very sad news. Hillar will be missed by anyone who knew him he was personable, had a good sense of humour and for sure a "car guy" I was lucky enough to get to see Hillar a couple times this past year and will appreciate the afternoon we spent together this fall talking cars and visiting an old friend of ours that Hillar had not seen in a couple of years.Life is very short and needs to be appreciated at it's simplest level daily.

Cheers to Hillar and may his soul Rest In Peace

renaming the general full size forum sounds like a great idea, not only we will remember him, but new members will know him a little as well...

I've been away from the site for awhile also... only to log on tonight and see this. I'm shocked. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and his friends on this site. He touched all of us with his wit and incredible knowledge of these cars we all love. Rest in peace Hillar.

The Renaming would be a fitting Tribute to Hillar.... R.I.P.

Would it be possible to add a section to the forum for a tribute of members who have passed on? Possibly use the User Details that the person has and whatever other members would like to add.

Ray and Mark,

It's always difficult to see someone pass before their time. Recognizing his strong interest in 1970 full-size Canadian Pontiacs, I would hope it might be possible to rename the General 65-70 Full Size Forum to Hillar's General 65-70 Full Size Forum. Precedent has been set over at ChevyTalk.org with 1977_Chevelles-Doc's 1973-1977 Chevelles

Rest in Peace, Hillar.

I think any manner, that can be used, to recognize Hillar, would be proper..

I would like to thank everyone, who has responded, to this event, in our personal and on site lives..   I was at first, so shocked, and sad, to lose such a wonderfull person.
As I re-read "his"words, I started to smile again, and celebrate, all that he did, for us... I hope in 2010, and beyond, we can continue, to grow this fellowship, and do the works, Hillar would have wanted, us to do.
I think, we thought so much of him, because we saw a man, who represented lots of things, we approved of, and wanted to be like...
My life and outlook, will be different, because his loss reminds me, of the really short trip, that we are all  on... So, thank you guys,  and thank you Hillar...
Carl H.

Just reading the word from all of you ( I never personally met him other than here ),  I think Hillar would want us all to remember that he enjoyed every day.  This is a great pic that captures the spirit of the man.  thanks to CDN2PLS2 for posting the pic.

rename away ...

I have been struggling with this whole thing the last few days. It seems kind of far fetched considering I have never met Hillar in person. It felt like I was getting over it a bit but seeing that wreath with Canadian Poncho attached to it was just a bit more than I could take. I"m glad in the last while it's finally become politically correct for a grown man to cry.

Very fitting. Rest in Peace, Hillar. And of course my condolences to his family and friends. I did not expect to see this in this post! Sad news, fond memories...

Every morning I come to this thread to read the updates. I get shivers going up my spine.
This morning it is more then that!
I hope everyone has remembered to not take life for granted, things can change instantly to either alter or end without notice.
I never met Hillar, and I see that was unfortunate for me. I am sure he is very proud to be looking down knowing how many people he has touched in such a good way.

Wow! I have been offline for most of the week with computer problems. I fixed it all up and decided to see what I missed here over the last week. CLUNK! (The sound of my jaw hitting the floor). OMG, how sudden and how very sad! no I truly am in shock...

Living in Toronto as well our paths could have and probably should have crossed. I had gone to the odd Route 66 Cruise at Eglinton and may have just missed meeting him. I would have loved to see his 454 Laurentian in person. I know we could have talked about 1970 Pontiacs until the sun went down and came back up again. Sadly I will never get the chance.

The picture below (courtesy of 427Carl) appears to have been taken at the Route 66 Cruise on Eglinton & Pharmacy. I notice they are gathered in front of Glens 67 Beaumont Sport Deluxe (Glen is in the white T-shirt; I was at his house last week picking up Beaumont parts in exchange for a case of beer).

EggySquareSept08.jpg

I was at Broadview and Danforth yesterday but I was totally unaware of Hillars passing. Had I known I would have certainly paid my respects...

Too young, too young... Godspeed, friend!

My condolences to his family and his friends
