I Need some help on picking wheels/rims

confuseconfuse
Okay, So I can't use the rally wheels I bought because it turns out they all had different backspaces.

Now, the original rims on the riviera are 15x6 with 5x5 bolt pattern. and 3.75 backspacing I believe.

Questions are
What rims will fit will 15x7? I want the tire to be 235/70/15 (which would fit on the originals)

question 2
Does back spacing matter now? and how much can I play around with?

question 3
I need some rim ideas. Because I don't want to go over 120 each rim. I want simple black design. Any one recommend any rims for the Riv?

something like
Type-KB-967-400.jpgType-D-STL-942-400.jpg

Its for the 68 Riv. I would appreciate any ideas.  I ask because I need new tires, I want to get the goodrich radial t/a but they would look cheesy with hubcaps, I thought the rally wheels would fit, but apparently not.
Thanks, Mike

In my opinion, those are the wrong wheels to use on a Riviera, looks wise. They don't match the car, unless you're putting the hubcaps back on.
Wheels that will bolt onto your car can be found on Astro/Safari vans, 91-96 Caprice, Impala, Buick Roadmaster, and 1/2 ton pickups and vans up to about 1987. They all share 5X5 bolt patterns.
You might find a good deal in a wrecking yard on those ones.

I want it to have a mean muscle car look. Since it is black with black vinyl roof.
For example, look at his Riviera

I would agree with Striper but I think he and I are both a fair bit older than you. Personally I don't see the black rims suiting your car. Most important thing is, it's your car. If you feel like putting on green rims cause you like them, nobody needs to say anything negative because it's your car, you can do as you please.

Well I do like the original Rally wheels they came with. But its extremely hard to find a set. But very often they do come up.

One guy in the US, says he rechromes them, and repaints them to show quality. But over $1000 for the Rims, and centre caps

Well there's always a first for everything, can't say I ever saw a Buick Riviera Stock Car before. My opinion is don't make the car something it isn't. Stripper is giving you the right ideas, he forgot one wheel that will work out as pictured below.....

Chevy Full size vans from the 70 - 80's used a 15 x 6 And some 15 x 7. Why I suggest these because of the negative offset. You can also check out wheel vintiQues , you can order chvy rally wheels with the correct bolt pattern, a smooth baby moon cap.

First place to start is pull your wheel and measure the back space, then measure your inner frame and inner fender clearance. Allow 1/2" extra for tire bulge.

I agree with Striper and Carl 1     the orange car does look goodbiggrin, but your car would look better with chrome wheels (my opinion)  Doesn't your car need offset FWD rims?

The Riviera is RWD.

rabbit64cs Do you mean these rims? But in Black? Because they aren't that bad.

Maybe I will save the money and get the original Rally wheels

(sort of like these, just different centre caps)

I think the stock car looks good. Your car would be to much black, just my 2 cents though. Nice chrome torque thrusts with raised white letter tires though....... just remember to get the offset right, all the better to stuff some fat rubber into those big ol' wheel wells!

1979 Lesabre is 5 on 4 3/4, same as our old B bodies. Don't know what they were before the downsizing.

I know there were a lot of 15x6 5x5 for the full size buicks, but they all had different backspacing throughout certain years.

Ya, up to '78, they came with 15x6, 5 on 5. But back space is different. I have a wheel from 64, a wheel from 67, a wheel from 70-72 and a wheel from 76. All 15x6 5 on 5. However, all different backspaced and hub differences. Looks the same, but very minor friggen differences, that I didn't know before I bought them. They were a set too.
These are them. See they look all the same, but have their differences. evileye
I guess, I have to resell them 1 by 1 now too.

haha, A lot of people confuse the 68 Riviera with fwd because of the sister cars, the Toronado and Eldorado, that were changed to FWD that year. In which I think was a shame, because the Eldorado is one GREAT looking car to change to fwd.

Wow, I'm glad you posted that. I had no idea. I really have no Buick background so it's all learning for me.

Ya, its good to know.

The main lesson is, make damn sure of what you need fits before you buy something. Good thing it wasn't to expensive. I was going to put the tires on them too, good thing, I found out all this before I did that as well.
Can't get mad at the seller either, because I don't think he knew either. He was a cutlass guy.

If they'll clear the drums, I'd go with a set of 15 by 8 pre-88 5 hole Chevy truck rally rims, painted black.
