1965-68 Drum spindles

looking for a set of 65-68 small outer bearing (B Body) drum brake spindles.
All I ask is the spindle surface and ball joint taper to be in decent condition.

Cheers, Mark

I have a pair of 64 spindles off. I was always under the impression they where the same spindle. Steering arms are a bolt on and are different  or left to right because of the rear steer / front steer...

Anyone?

I think the difference is the position of the drag link; forward on the 61-64; rearward on the 65-70. But I have also heard that the 65-68 spindles can be swapped left and right on the 61-64 to get the same effect and to accommodate later disc brake swap.

the steering arms are bolt on, so that makes the spindles interchangeable ...in my opinion,, I agree with you gparis7!

looking for confirmation, ,then I have a pair of spindles for YOU.

too bad you didn't ask 2 months ago, I stripped and crushed a 66 and 67 B-body, then there would have been no questions.

RE: 1965-68 Drum spindles. Now changed to 69-70

I have been PM'd with a line on the 65-68 spindles. But I'll now ask for 69-70 Drum spindles.

My original plan was to build a bench mockup using the 65 - 68 Drum spindles, steering arms and hubs.

Machine down the top backing plate bosses on the spindles, and install  C3 Corvette caliper brackets, splash shields, and good O ring/Stainless sleeved calipers.

Ultilize 69-82 Corvette rotors on top of the drum hubs (may req a shim plate between). Change the studs to Corvette.

If it all works, I'll change it into my 67, adding a Disc/drum master.

I'm now thinking it may as well be 69-70 Spindles, as I already have a set of disc hubs and drum steering arms for these. Of couse as it goes... I scrapped two pairs of these last year.no

Mark.

Try a PM to member Howmac on here. He has a lot of 69 stuff. He lives just outside of Winnipeg.

Thanks Carl, I'll do that.

Ultimately, I'd like to source locally...the bare spindles even on their own are quite heavy.

Cheers, Mark

I think a lot of these have found their way back into the scrap stream Dave.

For later reference. The 65 and 66 spindles are the same. The 67 and 68 spindles are the same. The 4 years are NOT totally interchangeable. You are correct in looking for a 69 or 70 spindle.

I just put '68-'82 Corvette spindles and hubs on the 'Chief and I compared my spindles to the Corvette and they are identical except for the 'Vette uses larger bearings.'69-'70 spindles would work awesome. And there is no trimming of any bosses for mounting anything on the spindles. They will except any 'Vette set up from '68-'82.I've done it and it looks awesome!!!!
