I just finished stripping out my motor and inner fender areas I think fender wells sound be gloss black radiator support - Gloss Black Fire wall colour of car But the hood was painted colour of car but when i striped it down it seems to originally been gloss black does this seem correct ?? Thanks http://63acadian.com/63/index.html
My '64 Parisienne is Lagoon Aqua under the hood and on the firewall. Black semi-gloss for fenders/rad.

My car had satin black inners & rad support, body color firewall. Unfortunately my firewall was very faded and scratched up so I just did it satin as well.
WHAT I FOUND ON MY '64 LAURENTIAN: INNER FENDERS - SATIN BLACK RAD. SUPPORT - SATIN BLACK RADIATOR - GLOSS BLACK UNDERSIDE OF HOOD - SATIN BLACK WITH ALOT OF BODY COLOR OVERSPRAY
MY CAR HAD BEEN RE-PAINTED ONCE WHEN STILL VERY NEW (LESS THAN ONE YEAR OLD) SO FOR THE UNDERSIDE OF THE HOOD I'M NOT SURE IF ALL THE OVER-SPRAY WAS FACTORY OR NOT. INSIDE THE DOORS AND TRUNK ARE FACTORY PAINT. I'M NOT SURE IF THEY WOULD HAVE LIFTED THE HOOD FOR THE RE-PAINT. I BELEIVE THOUGH THE UNDERSIDE HOOD SHOULD BE SATIN BLACK WITH ALOT OF FACTORY COLOR PAINT OVERSPRAY BUT I CAN'T SAY FOR CERTAIN.
Is there a specific satin or semi-gloss black that you suggest ?
Is this as simple as a spray-bomb from Canadian Tire ?
I'm interested because I want to repaint my front bumper support frame while the chrome is off getting re-done.
Regards,
Scott
I use WalMart U.S.A. spray paint mostly gloss black and flat black .96cents a can Nice stuff of course I am not working on purist or trailer queen cars..

i used por-15 semi gloss in the engine compartment, frame and under car. the thing is its not uv protected, but i think under hood and under car does not get much sun so i used it. and it looks right.

yes i sprayed it, its very hard to get of of your hands and you must use a respirator. and don't spill any around the edge of the can!!!!!! or you won't be able to get the lid back off!
I use Allis- Chalmers machinery paint, spray gun applied, comes out a "nice" satin finish very close to what it should be, & you don't need a "primer" Good to go over rust as well. I think John- Deere has one similar!! I mix the Allis with Lac. thiners almost 50/50 Works for me!!!!

Eastwood has a underhood black in a 10-20 % semi gloss that they say is the correct shade but would be more expesive than other brands. Available in Aerosol and quart cans.
GM did have a satin black or chassis black paint available in gallon cans a few years back, Not sure if still available. Catapiller Med. Gloss Black is decent paint as well, comes in spray bomb, qt. or gal. reasonable $$$
