65 Acadian/ Nova 12 bolt

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Rare-1965-67-Chevy-II-Nova-12-Bolt-Rear-End-F-18-65_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem53dcbc9b35QQitemZ360185633589QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

I know the 69-70 Nova 12 bolts cost a lot. Are these that hard to find?

Boy, would I love to own that one! As stated, extremely rare. I have seen them in the 2,000-2,500 range but never that high. However, that is not to say it's not worth over 3,000.

I plan to to build one from a B body housing when it's time for one in my Acadian. Sorry B body guys!

That's pretty much for the original boys. No doubt, that kind of money will buy you a decent diff if stamped numbers are not what you care about.

I'm shopping in the 1000 to 2000 range for a 65-67 12 bolt and I have a hard time swallowing that. You have to like the direct bolt in stuff.

In 1965, they made these differentials available as an option with the L-74 high output 327.  There were 319 of the HP 327 Chevy II's sold but not all of them had the 12 bolt option.  I owned the identical rear about 3-4 years ago and sold it to a guy in Texas restoring one of the HP 327 cars he had purchased new, then sold and later bought back.  When he got it back, the 12 bolt was gone, so he needed a correct dated replacement.  I sold it for $1,750.
In 1966 these were standard on the L-79 option cars and may have been available as an option of other 327 cars that year.
This rear that Terry is selling, may be a little more valuable due to the fact it can be used for a 65 or 66 model Chevy II, date wise.  Although he does point out that the code is not visable on the axle tube so that can be a negative in that without the axle tube code, the original ratio and application cannot be verified.
I'm really surprised to hear several of you would be in the market for one of these differentials because I had another one last year from a 66 with no axle tube code.  It was completely rebuilt with a new 3:55 r&p, posi, painted and ready to be installed.  I advertised it several times first for $2,000 and later for $1,800 before I finally sold it to a guy in Youngstown, Ohio for use in a 64 Nova for $1,800 plus a delivery charge.
I have no idea what the production was on one of these in an Acadian but you can be sure it was low.
By the way, Terry Rosebush, the seller of this 12 bolt is a top notch parts guy and in my opinion, you could consider the purchase of this differential includes at least $1,500 in new parts and top notch labor that he will stand behind.

I sold a 68 12 bolt posi for a Nova about 4 years ago. Didn't want to sell it , so I told the guy what I thought was a stupid # of $1500 without the posi ( which is what I needed for my 68 SD )

He didn't even blink,,"I'll take it"

He was restoring a 68 396 nova SS

ya never know !
