What are my options for restoring or replacing the interior dash vents on my non-AC 2+2? I see that reproductions are made for the 69 Impala. Will those work or will I have to look at rechroming the ones I have?
the impala ones are different. Best option is to look for ones in better shape than yours and trade up. Occasionally NOS ones pop up on ebay.
The left and right sides are different. as hte left side slants, right side is straight up and down. The 69 & 70 ones are very similar, no one would know the difference. If I recall, 69 ones have the little thumbwheel on one of the louvers, 70 don't. Then a mid year change in 70 caused the nozzle itself to be black, with only a silver tip.
I got a silver paint marker at my local hobby shop, and did some touch-ups one mine once, it worked pretty well. It looks just like a felt marker, but it has silver paint in it. You can use it to touch up the rim of the outer bezel, and also around the speedo housing.
I have a nuber of vents (some better than others), but my stuff is all packed up with basement renos.
Isn't that the way! You think that GM could have saved a bunch of money by standardizing parts like this and then to have 2 vents that could be the same end up being different part numbers! But, I'm not an engineer so I probably don't understand! My parts are great except all of the chrome is gone. Thanks.
I was lucky enough to come across a nos pair of 1969 deflectors a few years ago on ebay. Tough bidding and I ended up paying a pretty penny for them! Worth it though.
I do like the idea of touching a good pair up with a hobby marker, you could mask and spray with some of that chrome paint.
Keep your eyes peeled on ebay, they do come up every so often. I'll keep on the lookout as well.

Mark - I was probably bidding against you and ran up the price. If I recall, those are 1970 early. 1969 original ones had the little thumbwheels, and 1970 late the nozzles were black with only a chrome lip.
The MPC doesn't even list a pn for the right vent on a 69. But both the 69-70 share the same pn for the left vent. The late 70 scheme shows different pn's for both left and right.
I learn some detail everyday here! And thanks for running up that auction!
Cheers, Mark.

my parts catalog shows the same but it's from the early 80's. I also have a parts catalog from the early 70's but it's packed away. It should show all the different part #'s. As I said, no one would notice if 70 vents were used on a 69, or even if they differed from side to side.
