66 SD 396 Convertible

We've seen some 68's and a 67 or so, but do any members have any 66 Big Block SD Convertibles? I'd love to buy one but have never even seen one let alone one for sale. Love to see some pictures. Bill

For some reason I'm thinking that Cheetah 427 may have made mention of one once (but I could very well be wrong)?

Yes-I believe there is an original owner 66 SD rag down there in lower B.C. someplace. There used to be a super clean yellow one in Brampton but I believe it was a clone.

Honestly never seen on-always on the hunt for you Bill

I know there was a 66 396 3 speed standard that sold in BC a fews years back.  (The fella was a mechanic who prefered working on the 3 speed.)  Pretty rare I'd say...

PS  It wasn't a rag top.

Re the 66 SD rags, most seem to be 283's. I've yet to see another 327 rag SD, other than my own. Although I've seen 327 hardtops.

I dont know of any for sale, but back in 1980, A kid I knew had a 66 SD convertible.

Unfortunately he wrote it off ( T boned / bent frame ) He told me he was parting it out so naturally I went over to see what I could salvage.

I remember the motor/trans being a 350/400 non original, however, the rear end was a 12 bolt posi and the ratio was in the 3.23-3.36 range not 3.08 which I removed from the car and immediately installed in my 71 Chevelle convertible.

I cant recall the code date on it but it did have a red plastic fan shaped tag on it at the filler plug saying positraction fluid only or something to that effect.
So my question is would a small block car have a 12 bolt from the factory?

This may be an indication that these cars existed. He was the second owner of the car.....

A friend of mine had a 66 Beaumont rag, with 396 4 gear about 15 yrs. ago. pretty sure it came that way. Anyway he was down in Tenn. & stopped for gas & the station had never seen this type of car before, the owner of station "bugged & bugged" him to sell it to him. Graham called him a few mths. later & said he was coming back down & quoted a "high" price & the American said SOLD!!!  He bought another car down there & drove back!!! He then was on the the "look out " for Beaumonts & flogged a few down there.

I expect too-(seeing Gilles hasn't shown up for it)

I pulled it out of the storage garage the other day-sure looks good to see it again.

time is rare these days-I have two young kids and a job for now-considering another house etc...

march break ended-I had my older boy at the Ontario science center, then yesterday a helicopter ride in Niagara Falls

Sounds like it is one of the very few if it is indeed a factory 396.  Per other threads it seems doubtful that it would have come with a BB hood in 66.  (Since I've been on the lookout for a horn buttom for my '66, I couldn't help but notice that the one on this '66 doesn't seem to be the correct one.)  That would be a very nice car to own.
