Bought a Chevy 2

Bought a 1965 Chevy11, 2 door post today. A parts car at best, but it is complete. It has a 327 in it.  It has a recessed oil filter, old style carter 4 barrel.I seem to remember they used the 362 casting for these cars in 1965? Anyone know for sure?I will post the  parts available when I get it stripped down.

The '721' block was used for both 283 and 327 engines.
It was the base for the 1964 Chevy II 283, then was also used for 1965 and 1966 327 applications until the end of October,1965 when the 362 block came into use. The '721' block was used in some of the 1966 L79s built in the early Fall of 1965.

Chris

You will get varying opinions on what casting number is correct! Have you checked the date code on the block to see what it is? That will tell all.

Do you know any history on the block?

I guess now you have to find another Nova/Acadian project car!

I will know better when I get it home, but it may be good from the firewall back. If the floors and frame rails are good I may make it into a straight axle car. 327 with Hilborn Injection, fenderwell headers, , pie crust cheater slicks, skinnies you know what I mean.

This ad is from York, PA and that is home to National Nostalgic Nova Club and restoration services.  My guess is that ad was placed by Wayne and if so you can take the info to the bank.  He has been doing Chevy II Novas all his life and after working on hundreds and parting out about the same his knowledge of these cars is very very extensive.
He not only has a couple storage buildings he hasn't even begun to inventory with used parts, motor's and sheet metal and small parts, he also is a dealer for just about every repro part being made for these cars today.  His prices are resonable and in some cases lower than Chevy2Only and the other well known retailers.
Phone calls are answered by someone in their family and all questions are answered to the best of their ability, parts are quoted along with any services needed.
I'm usually there a couple times a year and can offer transport for any large parts, cars or other items you may purchase.  I can also transport cars to or from their location when services are performed.
Give them a call and tell them you talked to Norm.

P.S.  I know he has many 283 engines and componets available

Yea,  I missed a number of the Nationals during the time I was transporting cars full time.  Now I have been to the last 3 or 4 mini nats in Kissimmee and the last two summer Nationals in Gettysburg and Belterra.
This years summer nationals in Gettysburg, PA includes a tribute to the Veterans.  I believe we are renting several buses bring wounded veterans up from Walter Reid Medical Center in Washington D.C.  Those of us with cars in the show will be taking the veterans for rides in our cars that day.  The people at Boyd's bears will be having an all day salute to the veterans that day with tents set up on their grounds and commemorative bears available with proceeds to veterans charities.  Many other businesses and groups have expressed an interest in being a part of the days activities.

Is it the Acadian/Nova style oil pan and stick, or back of the block dipstick and tube?

Carl it has a nova pan and dipstick, I know it's not a 262 , edelbrock performer (intake has been changed and has finned edelbrock early sytle valve covers, someone drilled a hole in one for adding oil), road draft tube, with quadrajet and double bump heads, guess I'll wait until I get it out and then have proper id with the engine code. This car looks like it has the original engine that it came with, 327, emblems are in correct places on the fender, 5 stud wheels, 10 bolt rear axle, v8 mounts don't look like they have ever been off, 3 core harrison rad, powerglide trans, speedo says 65000.

Very interesting. I can't find any "C" codes for a 327 Nova. Can you read the casting number on the block?

CG 64 283 4 speed with A/C...

Obviously has to be early with the road draft tube and you said it has the recessed Nova filter. That makes it really interesting.
