[Testing a gas tank sending unit on a 65 Beaumont

How do you test the wiring and the sending unit. If you ground the center pin will it make the gauge go to full or blow a fuse? Can you use a electrical meter to measure the resistance on the sending unit?

Key on with the brown wire off of the sending and the guage should go overfull. If you ground the brown wire, she should read empty. In electrical terms, 0 ohms will be empty and @90 will equal full.

Fuel Gauge

The fuel gauge is an electrical instrument that measures an electrical current from a variable resistor in the fuel tank. A float controls the variable resistance.

When the fuel tank is full, the resistance is high. Then, the fuel gauge moves to the maximum position (Full) on the gauge face.

When the fuel tank is empty, the resistance is low. Then, the fuel gauge moves to the minimum position (Empty) on the gauge face.

That's funny as I am the opposite!!! I know next to nil about house electricial and 220 baffles me!!! But give me a schematic for a vehicle.............................!!!

They are different for sure. I am a commercial electrician but I do the res stuff too. Those car schematics are messed up to me.

Auto electrical and house electrical sure are opposites. I can't get used to a black wire not being a ground wire...

I can do both.  Among other things, when I put the big block in the convertible I made a whole new engine harness.   This winter I wired my basement (and yes it passed inspection).   I've been a telecom tech/engineer for coming up on 30 years.
