Welcome to the world of U.S. muscle cars.  It's my understanding, prior to PHS, the only means of proving a high performance Pontiac was by date codes.  In the 80's, I was much more involved in selling parts and my best friend was very much into Pontiac's.  We traveled to many a swap meet and guys were always looking for the correct date coded engine componets.
So, my point is, there are many instances where it is impossible to validate a "real deal" or not.
And by the way there are and have been lots of bogus muscle cars floating around the U.S.

Just a comment on the Chevelle, let's not loose track of the fact it is a convertible.  I'm not sure what the books are quoting but it is my opinion a convertible is worth a 30-40% premium, especially this time of year.  That is exactly what I just received for my 62 convertible.

Interesting. When I got my 67 Nova SS 327 it came with a block in the trunk. Dates are perfect, a week or so before the build date but no VIN stamp. I asked around and everyone said not till 68. Then this comes along..............!

My old 63 Acadian had a engine serial# tag included with all the paperwork in the glovebox. It was Oshawa built. Did any USA plants include this with the original paperwork?

Some one on team Chevelle picked up the car for under $10,000. Pictures of the engine pad look correct.
