Seller says parts car. No ownership? Bad frame? Has a seized motor. That interior might be the same as a 68 Parisienne..

That's not going to last long. If I was closer I'd snap it up. (or at least see if someone could check it out for me!)

Looks like it sat damp. Probably the usual frame issues.
But you never know Johnathan, although rust is showing above the mounts, the trunk pan actually might be in fair shape..a promising sign.

I always loved those big fastback Impalas. It says original paint. Look at the colour, it's a Canadian-exclusive Burnished Saddle and its in the trunk and on the firewall too. The colour was actually sourced from the U.S 1968 Buicks.

It seems a shame to bust it up for parts if a soft frame is the biggest issue. Fairly clean car I'd say. Its a humble 307 Powerglide with drum brakes (so typical).

I sent an email to the owner asking why it was a parts car:

"Hello, Floor has only surface rust. The frame is in good shape. Transmission crossmember and exhaust are rotted through though. Ownership is in my Grandfather's name, who passed away in 1983 and was never transfered beyond that. Car has been sitting in a garage since 1979. Thanks.
"

Sounds like it's worth saving to me!

Really, just the trans crossmember and exhaust?
Someone get there quick! No way will it last.

And the condition of the cloth seems to be in exceptional shape. You usually see these in tatters don't you?

Looks good for the money - too good to part it appears. But if it happens to be a rustbucket underneath there are some excellent parts there. And burnished brown too.

Just curious...Why did GM even produce the 307?

If I decide to buy this car, is there anybody in SW Ont that could hold the car for me for a month or so? My wife does want to go to Ottawa to see her Granny, and I do have a truck and trailer.... If the car looks as good underneath (or close to), as the outside and interior, it would be worth driving to Windsor area to pick it up.

You got that right Mark, right up there with the 267.doh

Why not just use the reliable and much more powerful 327 as the base engine?confuse

That probably depends on how nice the Ministry people are feeling that day.  When I bought a 73 Pontiac Astre out of a barn with no ownership.  The VIN didn't even come up in the system.  I had to get a signed afftidavit (hope that's spelled right) by the Town Clerk.  Stating it was that car, that VIN etc....  Took no time at all, although I don't think he cared.  Now the car I am working on now.... there were a few middle men between me and the first purchase, luckily the ownership was signed and so was the package.  We did the appraisal and all was good, just told her about a couple ppl between me and original signature to clarify the timeline, and all was good.  Maybe I got lucky, but I am sure if you contacted them they would tell you what you need!!!

Like the Canadian Pontiacs did for 1968, the 327 2-barrel. thumbsup.gif

The 307 was not a bad engine really. It was a torquier engine than the 283 but didn't rev as readily due to the longer stroke combined with the small bore like the 283. A 307 is a far better engine than any 262 or 267. I happen to think it is better than the 305 as well (better bore / stroke combo and high nickel in the casting). GM tried to hop up the 305 but just never did with the humble 307.

I couldn't agree more. I've had several big cars with the 307, and several with the 305. The 307 is far more powerful & torquey than the 305. To me the 305 was a dog, only slightly better than the 262 & 267.

I would be so happy to see someone keep this car on the road - especially an original Burnished Saddle Metallic - CDN only colour! My CDN convert is the same colour.

I have two 68 Impala fastback parts cars - so anyone needs stuff for this one let me know.
