Thanks for all the comments on the 4 dr value.  It confirms my thoughts.

Does anyone know of an original '64 Parisienne 4 dr hard top in sky blue like this one?

64 Parisienne.JPG

This is the one I bought last year.  The body is in amazing condition!!  No holes anywhere.  At the same time ,...it will need paint.  And to paint a car this size ,... I've got prices of anywhere from $6000.00-$15,000.00.   And the car will never be worth more than $3-$3500.00.  I wouldn't be willing to throw that amount of money at it even if I was in a position to pay it.

This exact model, color and year has a special interest for me.  It's the first used car that I remember my parensts owning. So I always thought if I ever came across one in this exact combo,... it would be nice to have one.  I hate to give up on this one ,..because the body and frame literally have no rust,.... but I'd be better off trying to find one thats been tucked away somewhere that does not need any bodywork or paint. (although they may be very far and few in between) Back in the day,.... this combo was very common.  So maybe there might be one somewhere that's been garaged for 20+ years)

I came across a really nice '64 four dr Laurentian sedan with 40,000 original miles. It was near mint,... for only $3000.00.  BUT,...... it was a different color and model,...just not what I wanted.

So I thought I'd throw it out there,....
Does anyone know of a car like this that doesn't need paint or bodywork?  I'm after a sky blue 4 dr hardtop Parisienne with blue interior.  Engine\trans is irrelevant. that I can do myself.

Any other thoughts are welcomed.

Thanks for the advice

I guess I may have to consider the "home paint job" if I can't find another '64 sky blue 4dr  that doesn't need paint.

ive had a couple driver quality paint jobs done in the last couple years
in the 2000 dollar range, they arnt perfect but they are quite presentable
and avoid a $10000 paint job on a $4000 car, shop around!!

63 &66 turned out fine for the money, less worry/ more driving when its affordable

that 64 would look great with a mop and glow paint job, its never gonna be worth
big money so who cares, shine it up and cruise, perfect paint is for car shows
if u use it, it wont be perfect very long

My original paint is all dull (won't buff out), and thin (down to the red primer in some places).
I just plan on fixing a couple rusty places, and clear-coating it!
The interior is near mint (just needs carpet, kick panels, and lower door panel carpet, which I've purchased).
I'm more worried about the upgrading the mechanicals, and trim.

Sorry, I know lots of guys like them, but I would never buy a 4door. The post cars were plain family cars, and practical they were, but my fun car needs to be sportier, only a 2door or a ragtop will do. The 4door hardtops do have decent styling, but sindow sealing on those old cars is even worse than a 2door hardtop - and they still have too many doors, IMHO.

So 0% of 2door is 4door value to me.

No worries.  Thanks for the reply.   There was a time I thought the same way.  But now I have a family.  I guess that's why a 4 dr looks atractive  now smile.gif

Thanks for the reply. It always helps to get many perspectives!

Hey Darryl, I think these are the first pictures I've seen of your car! Looks great, and I like your plan for interior (lucky the original upholstery is soo good!) and exterior. Mechanicals should not be a problem, at least as far as parts, since Chevy inderpinnings and good old 283 motor still are available.  SHould make for a smooth, reliable, fun ride.

Replating trim is going to be expensive, sorry to say - the rear bumper dent is a real $$$ fix I fear. Maybe leave the dent, not rechrome, to match the "patina" paint?

(sorry for off-topic post, eh?)

Dave

Ya Dave, I'm pretty secretive, like all Canadians!biggrin Actually, I just got it out of the barn this past week.
I won't be rechroming anything for a while. I just want to upgrade the lower trim at some point.
I will take the bumper off, bolt a "reinforcement" onto the back of it, and try pushing it out on a hydralic press ... at least that's what I have in mind.idea.gif

Randy (64 Hard Top), I thought you were going to make your car a 409 sleeper, no new paint ... looking just as it is?

Hi Darryl,.

I've seen other guys bend back dents and dings in chrome bumbers with a hydraulic press,... it works amazingly well.  In most cases,.. it's like it never existed when it's done carefully.  I had one done. The guy at the machine shop charged $10 bucks!!

Pontiacanada has the right idea, just clear coat the faded paint to protect it and leave it as is.

It looks great like that!

Bill Hand's '63 Catalina 4 Door.jpg

Jim Hand's '63 Catalina 4 Door "sleeper"

When the 63's came out, I liked the lines very much so I sold the 60 to a friend in Wichita and ordered a new 63 4 dr HT with the Ventura trim, and 4 bbl 303 HP engine. I also ordered special gage package, transitor ignition and voltage regulator, and a 3.42 gear from the optional towing package. I also ordered the HD Police/Ambulance automatic transmission. Of course, we had to run it a few times and installed a Pontiac # 6 cam which was standard in the 425A package. It ran good for what it was: 15.60/86.5 MPH. I had several brothers in Wichita who were getting into racing so I visited there and went racing several times at the Wichita track, and brought home trophies.

Sorry Randy, I edited my post ... it is Jim Hand. The car doesn't exist anymore.
He's raced a lot of cars, and written books on Pontiac performance.

http://www.pontiacsonline.com/Jim%20Hand.htm

As for clear coat, I would get it sprayed by a bodyshop or use a compressor/good spray gun. It should last as long as any clear coat does as long as you care for it.
Spraying a clear coat over the car's existing finish would be a little more forgiving than spraying a colour.
I don't know how spray cans would work/last.

Really interesting web page.

Doesn't this sight just turn your stomach ? cry.gif The same fate met many a 4 dr and wagon.

Hard to believe that this car pictured here would be escorted to the crusher one day.

Thanks for the tip on the clear coat.  I may consider that.

One other alternative that I haven't researched.,.... what a paint shop is running on the American side.  I'm close enough to the boarder that I could drive it over to have it painted.
Anyone out there from Minnesota that could comment on how much a paint job is running out there on a "full size" '64 Pontiac?  (Paint ONLY,... absolutely no bodywork to be done)

I've got a Trans Am that's going to need paintbiggrin  But will need some body work done first i'm surewink

Anyway, myself i prefer the 2dr cars too.  However if money wasn't a problem and i looked hard enough i'd really like to have a 1969 Dodge Coronet or Deluxe, 4 dr, green.  My grandpa had one.

Here's another example of a "good buy" even though it costs too much to restore.  Hopefully somebody has some emotional attachment to a '61  4 dr and it will go to someone who will restore it ,.. rather than strip.  Not to many examples left of these graceful 4 dr beauties.

Listed on kijiji

http://winnipeg.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-classic-cars-1961-Pontiac-Laurentian-W0QQAdIdZ210305161#

1961 Pontiac Laurentian.  4 door sedan.  Have new rocker panels and front floor pans which cost approx. $375.  It has bench front and back seats.  251 inline 6 cylinder, 3 on the tree tranny.  Have started it every year.  I am the 2nd owner of the car. Have started taking apart to restore, but like everything else, ran out of time.  i don't want this car to got to waste.  Asking $1000 obo.  Feel free to email any other questions.
