66 Custom Sport 396 Convertible basket case(Not Mine)

It never fails.  I spent the last ten days in Southern Alberta sniffing around for old Pontiacs and found not much but an hour and a half from home at a garage sale  this guy says he wants to show me his old project that he has for sale.

It is a maroon with maroon interior 66 Custom Sport Ragtop with a 396 and turbo 400 with tilt yet!  Pretty good body for a Northern Alberta car but some rust. However it has been stripped and not reassembled so you know what a pain that can be.

He wants $14,000.00 firm.  I told him politely that for that much money people expect a car they can drive so he's  not likely to get anywhere near that.  he said that it had alot of really great parts like rechrmed bumpers etc.....

However I said that I would let you guys know and post his number if you want to inquire. (It is 780 367 2744)

If a guy was to find a GP parts car this would be a great opportunity if you could pick it up for a reasonable price to build yourself a phantom 66 GP 396 convertible! (Evil Thought)

That being said I have no idea how rare one of these would be just fixed up too.

I took some quick snaps including the cowl tag which somebody took off the car and (it looks like) touched with the sandblaster.  It is the right one though I am quite certain based on the equipment I did se on the car.

Anyway, give it a try.  Maybe you can get him down on price.  If you like for the next week or so I could run back there and take a bunch more pics if you are seriously dealing.

I would love to get this just for the tilt but that would be crazy!

I hate to quote him in case I am wrong.....
but, I thought he said that if it turns out to be 1 of 5, he would sell it, and ask 30k.

Yes I thinks he's out to lunch and supper..maybe breakfast..and lunch the the next day.....It may be rare but there's still a ton of work to do..and return on investment would not even be close to what you would end up spending. Not that you would ever get you money back anyway, for me I just like resorations for the fun in it..not as a profit making business. So to shell out $14,000 on a car you can't even drive...you'd need to be ritcher than I.

Hey guys this guy just phoned me and told me hes dropped the price down to $8000.00  Still too rich for me for a basket case. but some of you may be interested.

It is a very rare machine, but I just don't need it for that price, especiually since that running GP with 46,000 went for 6000.00 (rats, still cursing myself for missing that!)

I really don't need another project.  You're right though 6500 would probably take it
