1967 Acadian Canso Sport Deluxe at the NSRA Nationals in Louisville, KY

I took advantage of being able to take a 60's car to the National Street Rod Association Nationals in Louisville this year.  There are still a LOT of people there who had never seen an Acadian before in person.  I took my 66 L79 Nova one day and the 67 Acadian Canso Sport Deluxe 2 days.

Carl,  Out of all my cars, this is the least "correct" car I own.  But it is the one I drive to shows the most. It is a 71837 car, but the drive trane has been replaced and the color changed to the Candy Apple Red. I would consider selling this car because I have 3 cars that I want to do complete resto's on. I am working on my 66 L79, 3-speed on the column car right now, I need to do a frame restoration on my 54 Corvette (the body and interior are done), and I am still considering restoring my 67 Nova Right Hand Drive, although it is pretty much all original, just dinged and scratched up. It is the only 67 RHD Nova Wagon in the world (that I know about). It was 1 of 2 in the US and the other car got wrecked and crushed.  That car was once owned by Tony Sands at one time. He owned some really nice Acadians several years ago.
If I sold the Canso I would ask  $32,000.  You can see my cars at:

I expected that would be the value of it. I have a 67 SS I plan to clone into an SD. It's a totally rust free Arizona 327 factory air car. I am guessing I will be into it for 30G very easily when I'm done...

I have to make up my mind whether to do the car or sell it and buy one that's finished.

I know of a 66 SD 71737 car that is a nice l79 clone. It may be coming for sale and it would be a similar price to your's.

Carl,  I have a nice 66 Nova Sedan body.  Completely finished (in the crate) all numbers matching early L79 complete motor, fresh M20, 12 bolt and most of the parts needed for complete car.  It would be about 4th in line and I don't know if I will ever get to it.  We spend a LOT of time with our 7 grandkids and I have not done anything out in the garage this summer. The kids get more important, and the cars less important. It has been in the mid to upper 90's all summer. I would consider selling this project, but it would take a while to figure the price. I paid $6500 for the body, $750 for trans, $1800 for 12 bolt, to name a few. I would not loose money to sell it. I pretty much have a the parts for a complete  car.
Right now I would like to get some things done on the 66 wagon.  It is going to be a L79, 3-speed on the column, with the correct Borg Warner T16 trans. I do not have any documentation on the car. It was a V8 Wagon with the 327 in it. It had a automatic (with floor B&M floorshifter) and 3 speed column.  I have never seen an L79 3-speed on the column except, for the Acadian on this site. I love cars that you never see, but are correct. But believe me, I know rare does not always translate to more money. I guess I am just in a selling mood righ now.

I've been going to ask for awhile so here goes. Was this car owned by Dan Annand from Courtenay BC at one time? I remember a very similar car that was restored in the early nineties, the trunk and floor where painted the same and almost everything that could be unbolted was chromed, a really nice car in any case.

I really don't know any history on the car.  It came out of Calgery, Alberta.  I bought it off eBay thru a broker.  The broker was always vague on all the questions I would have.  It supposedly was a show car done about 12 years ago.  It does have a lot of chrome, even underneith.  Canso Dan on this site talked with Wayne and he thought this car had belonged to a fellow named Dwayne.  I guess the seller wanted to remain out of the picture, thus selling thru a broker.

Is it a real 327 l-79 4spd car or a tribute?

They didn't make any 67 L79 Acadians.  This car when I purchased it listed all L79 parts without saying it was a L79.  It does have the correct heads, 490 intake, exhaust manifolds, water pump, fan, shroud, etc., but it is not a 362 block.  I think that they may have taken the original 283 in the car and bored it to put the 11:1 pistons and made a L79 tribute.

So is it a 283 car with a original 4spd? Does the cowl tag list M-20 or M-35.

Would you be willing to do something for me sometime, no hurry? Can you check the block number?

Or do you already know the block casting number? I have guys telling me that the original 67 Nova/Acadian 283 blocks (194) will go .125 over to make 327's but I've been skeptical. Is your's a 194 block casting?

I will double check when I can, but I am pretty sure the block is s 194. I only guess at the boring because when I purchased it, all the listed parts in the motor were listed as L79 parts.  It originally had a automatic and has M20 (looks like V20) on the cowl tag.  The car was listed by the broker as a factory 4-speed car. I guess they meant the transmission was from the factory, (but not factory installed). I guess nothing illegal about that.

My other 67 Canso is also a little bit of a mystery.  It is a 71537 6-cyl Canso that has all the Sport Deluxe features except the fender louvers.  Bucket seats with head rests, console, clock, all the badging.  Someone did a lot of work to change it over. It is as nice, or nicer, than the red car. It also has a AC unit still mounted under the dash.  Yes, I know there were no AC Acadian Canso's.

I would say likely no factory A/C Acadians like you state but it sure could be a dealer installed.

You know about the difference between the factory underdash and the dealer underdash units? (Blower switch?)

IF IT HAS M20 ON THE COWL, I WOULD SAY IT IS AN ORIGINAL 4 SPEED CAR.
VERY NICE CAR!

If this happens to be the car I remember it was featured in Super Chevy magazine in 1990-1992. At Super Chevy Seatle it was shown in the conversion class with all the Hot Rods ie 32 Fords etc with Chevy engines because no one understood Canadian Pontiacs at that time.....anyone got an old magazine collection that they could check?

V-20 is pretty strange. It should have a clear M-35 or a M-20 on the cowl tag. If there is no M-35 on the tag it is likely that it's a 4 spd car. Do you have a picture of the cowl tag? I like the color change but what is the original?

Here is a picture of the cowl tag.  The color was originally Tahoe Turquoise Metallic and was an automatic.  I did a VIR in 2008. Here are the results from Alberta:

September 12, 2007    in Sylvan Lake,AB
May 30, 2001               in Red Deer, AB
October 27, 1998         in Brooks, AB

I did a GM of Canada Documentation on the car.

you say you have gm docs showing M35 powerglide?

wonder if they changed it at the last minute at the factory to  a powerglide after the body was made?
does you car have the provision in the tunnel for the 4 speed?

I believe the second number is a 9. The documentation shows M35.

I have never seen a M20 on the bottom line on a Nova or Acadian.  My L79 has 2L on the bottom line to designate a 4 speed, which is correct.

Carl, have you ever seen a M16 3-speed on the column car, other than the 66 L79 Acadian on this site.  I actually found a brand new Hurst syncro loc 3-speed shifter, in the box, with all paperwork for the M16, but I am not going to put the Hurst in my wagon.  I am going to put the column shift back in.  I may not be more popular, but you never see them anymore.  Don't forget, if you didn't order the 4-speed option 65-68 in a HD application, you would get a  Borg Warner T16 (option M13).
