I would agree with Fred. The Canadian tag is much different than the Canadian Nova/Acadian tag and I am pretty sure they never used the "2L" type format.

I know of a 67 4 speed Acadian in Winnipeg but haven't seen the car in years. If it ever comes out again I will sure look at the tag though.

I have not seen an M16 column shift car, no. I agree with you though, the wagon would be super cool with that!

Do I not see the date on your cowl tag to be 1-3-27? Does that not mean first shift, March 27th? Also, looking closely at the M20 on the cowl tag, the 2 and the 0 don't look to match the font of the rest of the tag. Maybe somebody restamped the tag? Flatttened out the 35 and made it a 20?

Regardless, you are not trying to pass it off as a genuine M20 car so it really doesn't matter.  Still a curiosity though.

Jerry, did you happen to check the fan speed switch on your A/C in your blue car?  If it's in the dash, it's factory air and if it's on the underdash unit, it's a dealer install. Were you aware that you can tell the two apart that way?

Sorry, lotta questions!!!

Wow! So when you ran your vin # and got your Canadian GM docs it has it listed as a auto but the cowl tag says 4 spd. Sounds like somebody found a 4 spd cowl tag and put it on your car when they did the 4spd swap not realizing that the Canadian GM docs would prove different. It's not hard to find a color matched cowl tag with the limited color choices of the cars in the day. That is a weird one for sure but it still is a beautiful car. This car was local to us originally so I wonder if somebody here has a answer for us. Is there any numbers on the cowl tag linking the tag to the vin tag?

I don't have any reason to think the GM docs are wrong.

Carl,  the "2" and the "0" do look slilghtly different than the "M" to me.  I have had the blue car up on a lift for about a year.  The A/C unit in the car is all there is.  There is no other items under the hood.  I have never  messed with it, but I should remove it.  I earlier thought I might add the rest of the equipment,  but I never will.  I am not sure about the differences in the 2 A/C units.  I just bought some A/C peices for a 66, but I have never put original A/C on a car. As I get older, I may.

I will get you a picture of a factory unit, just give me a couple of minutes. It really doesn't matter either way which one it is. I'm more curious than anything.

As far as your cowl tag goes, as stated, regardless of what it says or how it looks, the car is beautiful and the documents from GM state it all anyway, so who really cares!

Back in a bit with a factory air underdash picture.

Jerry

This is the factory style. On the dealer unit, the left knob that I zoomed in on would say LO MED HI for fan speeds if I remember correctly.

Yes, the bottom of the 2 looks too round and the 0 should be more oval shaped, not a nice circle like it is, don't you think?

As a owner of three real deal SD 4 spd cars it means something to me. This car is not being sold as a real 4spd and thats not the point. Either somebody went through alot of work to mask this car as a 4spd or it's a real 4spd car in lambs clothing. Odd cars like this are very cool and interesting to me. Sorry to bore you Carl, I'm sure he will answer your AC question soon.

Carl,  Thanks for the pictures and information on the A/C.  I don't remember mine saying Air Condition on the left knob.  I'll check when I get the chance (have to get out the ladder).  It does not have a Chevy bowtie in the middle either, if I remember correctly.

I see that. I am second guessing now but the 2 still looks off!

Besides, he has the documents so we know it's been changed but I guess the question is, did it come from another car?

Hey, his documents have the body number on them, don't they?
