1957 shock absorber shields

My 57 Pathfinder Deluxe has triangular shaped metal sheilds that cover the last four inches of the rear shocks. I have spoken to folks who tell me that only export models to be shipped to other countries had these. I have never seen these shields on any other Canadian Pontiac or Chevy. I realize that many of these shields must have been trashed when the shocks were replaced. My question to the Canadian Pontiac brotherhood out there is, Did all production for Canada have these rear shock shields or is it true that only intended export production have these special shields. Any help always greatly appreciated. George.

George if at possible get a part number off one of the shields. I have never heard of these shields and I have been playing with 55 pontiacs for 40 years now.

Do you have a pic of the shield and where it is mounted. And as Al asked do you have a part #. If you do I have the master parts manual and can see if the part is listed.

Yes sir those are it. You have them on your car, now i wonder if all Canadian Pontiacs had them or just cars that were originally intended for export sale. The story i have been told is that these shields were put on export production because roads in some of these other countries were not the greatest, so they put these shields on to minimize the possible damage to the rear shocks. I no longer require to post a picture because these are it. As a side note when i purchased my car in 1996 it looked like my car still had the original swirl shocks in the back. Maybe that is what saved these shock shields. Many of these shields must have been trashed when the shocks were replaced by some dumb ass mechanic that was too lazy to put them back on. George.

I have an update on this. I met a very old car savy gentlemen today and he informed me that these shields were only put on Canadian Pontiacs and Chevs that had the heavy duty suspension option aswell as export Canadian Pontiacs and Chevs. Also they were fitted on American Chevs with the heavy duty suspension option. You would find this option mostly ordered on fleet taxis and Police vehicles.  George.

There's an earlier (51 I think) U.S Pontiac at Tiny's shop right now that has them. I was looking at them last night wondering why the shocks needed a shield.
