1968 Impala SS427 Project Cars

Since the weathers been so nice I decided to pull out the project cars and do an inventory of the junk in the trunks.

Since you rarely see so many 1968 SS427s together, I figured I'd share the fun.

Thanks for the interest and compliments fellows - they are all original Z24 SS427 cars with the L36 385hp - the turquoise fastback and the turquoise ragtop are both number matching US cars, the notchback and the primered fastback are CDN-built cars and the fastback is a 4 speed.

There is a 68 Parisienne ragtop in the back ground near the forest too.

Cheers

Dave

Thanks for the link - I have seen that car and spoken with the guy.  Its a 439 block with CE stamping.

I dont think you could build the car for what he's asking. Too bad the original purchaser didn't specify the Z24 option, I'd be all over that.

Dave

Actually the avatar is one of my "non-project" SS427s - its an L72 4 speed.

I never drive it - just sits around.

I got that in Michigan in 1988 for $900 - how times have changed...

Every time I've been in Alberta over the past few years that this car has been for sale I've wanted to go look at it but never had the chance.

The pics he has sent me before show the car is pretty clean.

Unfortunately, he's pretty convinced the car came with that air cleaner and an aluminum intake from the factory.  The correct 4 speed air cleaner will be very hard to find.

Regarding the elusive 68 only 4 spd Aircleaner, Jon K. has one on eBay right now. I'm sure it will go for big $$$. Haven't seen one of those for awhile

I have three CDN-built 1968 SS427s: the primered 4 speed fastback, the red notchback (from S'toon) and a convert from Quebec.

I have the 68 Impala sickness..

Thanks again for the interest.

Whoa!  Only 12 SS427 convertibles were made in Canada for 1968!

Here's a genuine Canadian-built SS427 convertible I photographed in Scarborough, Ontario in July 1991

That '68 convertible I posted was from Ste. Thérèse. The car was sold new to a doctor in Gravenhurst and eventually sold to the mechanic that maintained the car. It was then sold to a mechanic friend of the mechanic who lives in Scarborough or Pickering around 1991. The car is Tripoli Turquoise with black buckets & top, has the 385-horse L36 backed by a TH400. The owner said it was a bit slow off the mark (standard 2.73 gears probably). It also had AM 8-track stereo, power rear antenna, tinted glass all around, remote driver's mirror, power windows, power steering, power front disk brakes (4-piston), Rally Wheels & F41 suspension. It also has a factory N34 Sport Wheel. Personally I would love  to own that car, and in restored to stock condition.

I remember loads of 1968 Chevys & Canadian Pontiacs, but almost none had 427s. Even 396s were rare.
