ive used several edelbrock 600 cfm on different small blocks, ive used the electric and non electric choke performer series models, $300ish, all worked good out of the box with no issues, other then reversing the return spring and original style air cleaner fit, needed some minor tweaking to run the original, or use and open aftermarket style
A good working Quadrajet is a good way to go BUT I also like the 600 cfm Edelbrock Performer - no fuss no muss. If you go with the Performer go with a 14"x 3" open element, you may need a small spacer to clear the fuel inlet.
