trunk lid torsion bars???

While in Charleston W V for car show, my trunk lid wouldn't close properly, very stiff, then lid went out of alignment. I had to remove both torsion bars. Right side "looked like it had come out of "hook" below hinge??? These hooks swing freely on both hinges??? don't know what happened, but want to put bars back in, is there a left & right??? Do you install these with the lid proped open. Unfortunately I didn't have a whole lot of time to study them at show before I took them out, but do know that both t/bars were above the last notch [3 slots ] of adjustment???  Any help appreciated.   Pete

You need a long pry bar and a locking set of plyers, and a fair set of muscles

Have these been known to "pop" out of the hinge part??? Still haven't got back at it yet [ see what did you do in garage] I've heard of them breaking, but mine had lots of tension, used vise grips clamped on them, & was able to un-hook them
