RE: Attention Manitoban's.....

When I had my Super Duty Trans Am, I had to establish a TOD as it had been off the road since 1991. I think this was about 2005 or so. It was very easy, at my rural outlet as Howmac said. All I had to do was show a bill of sale and explain how long it had been in a field. They called central office in Winnipeg who apparently run the VIN nationwide to make sure it's not stolen. $15 later I had a TOD and my car was MUCH more saleable.

I just can't get excited about pulling VIN tags off wrecks. Cowl tags, no problem but not VIN tags. To me it would only take one RCMP visit on my yard where they find a tag missing from a car, or worse yet a tag sitting on a shelf. Chop shop comes to mind.

That was a lot easier than I thought it was going to be... In and out in 15 min.
Rumor or not, I'm glad I finally got it done.

Well got my TOD on Saturday, no problem, just that entering Acadian as the make the only option for model is Canso 4dr, but under Pontiac, Acadian Canso 2dr is available. Someone needs to educate these guys. But if letting them call my Acadian a Pontiac lets me register it, I'm OK with that.wink May be easier than explaining why my 2 dr is registered as a 4dr.

In AB you have to register them as Pontiacs as well.  I don't even say anything because it has nothing to do with the girl behind the counter and there is no sense confusing her and holding up the line.  wink  As long as I know I drive an Acadian sold at a Pontiac dealer.....life is good!

Wow.

Thanks Howard. I have a Nova I imported from the US 3 years ago that I have been putting off getting a TOD because I have to pay the tax on it when I do. I guess I will have to just do it. Not a big deal, just was trying to defer the tax for a while.

That's Autopac's second bright move this year after declaring all write offs older than 95 as being scrap........

First thing I do when I get  new car in put the title in my name.  You do not have to pay provincial Sales Tax to register a vehicle in your name.  Only pay PST if you were register it to put on the road.

Just got my Beaumont done today . Like Joel said 15 min. and out. She did have a hard time looking for Beaumont.  I told her to look under Pontiac. And there it was.I also lucked out as I had found the previose owners registration card in the glove box dated 1986 with the bill of sale. Glad thats done. Only $15 bucks will pay my $26 tax's when I register it.
