$2000 Acadian

Never thought I'd see the day when these were starting to be looked at as collector cars...  I drove many of them back in the day and always thought they were the most hateful things to drive, with the steering wheel offset, no room for your elbows or feet, and no horsepower to speak of!

They were awful cars.... but not as bad as a Pontiac Astre!!!! At least the Iron Duke engines outlasted the rest of the car!

I laughed when I read MC's steering wheel offset thing as we had a few T-cars, mine were both Chevettes but my Dad had a couple o' Acadians too..
Yes I welded door bottoms in a few also floors and the infamous front shock mountings but other than that and a few other things they were pretty cheap reliable wheels!.
I remember one Sunday evening and I was about 50 miles from home when the engine quit and I coasted to the side of the road..
Trying to start it again it was barking out the carb so obviously the timing off and peeling the front cover off I saw the belt was actually Ok but had stretched w/ age and was too loose to drive the cam without slipping..
Luckily I had a roll of electrical tape on hand to wind around the tensioner pully to increase its size and take up the slack...back on w/ the belt and I was on the road again!.
I ran it that way for two or three weeks until I put a new belt on!.

Being a Vauxhall/Opel lover I always wanted one of their versions but again too many wants and not enough time...or $!.

when I was a kid my aunt had one, I challenged her to a race down the block with my remote controlled truck. My little 7.2 volt truck won by two houses!

I had one paid $500 for drove it to work and back for 2 years never put a dime it and sold it for $200. I think that's pretty cheap transportation.

When I was at the Pontiac dealership we had one come off the carrier that way around 1983 or 1984 I'd say. One side of the Acadian was a Chevette Scooter!

As some have said, I think they were great value for a small car, much better than a lot of the puddle jumpers of that era.

We got a yellow one as a courtesy car when the Pontiac was in for warranty work. We took it to the cottage. No Kidding the pedal went to the floor and we belted up HWY 400 in the left lane. Made just under 140 with a full load. Must have been hard on that thing though full throttle for two hours.

We all remeber that Pontiac made the 2+2, but does anybody remember the 1976 Acadian 1+1? It was the Acadian version of the Chevette Scooter without a back seat.

There was also a woody version in 1976.
