RE: Just in time for halloween- Its Alive!(almost) 65 409 car

Well if anybody sees it we need a cowl tag to help build more history on these groovy leftover old muscle cars.

Here is a youtube I took today in the daylight.  I think he had a sticky rear brake which is why it didn't really want to move.

It almost looks like the shifter rods are in the "long throw" holes.

At least, if it's the same as my 66 was, there's 2 sets of holes at the trans and the ones closest to the pivot sure make it a lot shorter throw.

I didn't do any of the work actually except to keep telling him  that you guys wanted to see it run again.  The shifter was one that he got at a swap meet and it seems to be a bit low in the console.  We're looking around for the original stick but I have a feeling I might have straightened it out and put it in my 53 chev bench seat car years ago.  He has another couple of sticks so we will try a few combos and check the  throw holes.

I am going to run and check. I used to have a spare handle for one of those but not sure if I still do.

Nope. I have 2 left, one is for sure bench seat. This is the other one. The curve in it is way too soft, it should be much "crisper" at the bend.

Not sure what it is from. Anyone?

Carl, take a look at the 2 pictures Im posting. Taken straight out of my 1965 Chevrolet brochure, it shows a bench seat Impala convertible with what looks like a production 4-speed shifter made by Inlands. Look at the close-up picture. It sure looks like your shift handle doesnt it?

Wow, it sure does.

About 25 years ago I pulled an FM out of a 66 Impala in a yard, bench seat 4 speed car, still intact. I thought the handle had been more the traditional shape for bench, forward bend, then back, but I bet you are right.

Anybody building a Strato Chief 4 speed bench car that wants to buy a handle????

Yep, manipulate the images so they are in similar orientation - looks the same to me.

One step further - superimpose the images and they'd be exact if the orientation was not off a little:

10 or so years ago I looked at a 65 409 rag here in Saskatoon. It needed complete resto and at the time was too much money for me. I had no idea how rare it was. Supposedly purchased new in Saskatoon and numbers matching. Iheard it was sold to a guy in Rosetown and have heard nothing of it since, anyone else hear of it ?

They are still out there. (maybe in pieces)  Keep your eyes peeled and over the years we'll fill in some more of the gaps.

By the way nice avatar car cheviac.  Whats the details on her?
