76GLM & cupedition, I know you both have nice cars and clearly being an owner of one I love them too. I just pass on my experience, one reason why i am not a big fan of Cruise Ins is the way folks disrespect my car. cry

Ive never seen a Grand Am with that opera window treatment. Ill agree that the charcoal paint with red vinyl top & interior are striking. GM did offer charcoal paint in 1975 but as I understand only the new Monza offered it. I remember a new 1970 Impala Sport Coupe in Shadow Grey with bright red all-vinyl interior and how I never saw another with that combination.

Prices for the 1973-77 cars has traditionally been soft except back in the era when the downsized 1978 A-bodies were new. It is not that they were bad cars, perhaps it is because people dont want to be reminded of bumper standards, seat belt standards, buzzers and smog motors with poor fuel economy. Hell, back around 1997 in Toronto I found a 1974 Laguna Type S-3 with no winters for sale. It was a factory 454 4-speed with factory 3.42 gears. I was the second person to inquire about it in the month it was on the market, but the first person to look at it bought it for $6700. I missed out on the chance of a lifetime to own a 10 mpg underdog. Not a lot of people "get" these cars for some reason. Personally I like them.

There is a 1973 Grand Am on my street in a garage buried under 4 feet of garbage. I would take a picture but somehow I doubt the owner would appreciate his housekeeping and his car being exposed. It is a 400 4-barrel (I asked) plus it has honeycomb wheels.

Sorry guys if I sound too negative, I love the cars, I just get a little tired of people setting ridiculous prices on old cars then wondering why they can't sell them.

Cam you reminded me of my 1975 Monza 2+2 that was that Charcoal color. I always like that colour.

Anyway I am going to be more positive today biggrin

Ray,

You made very good point's, I just think that people today look at this car's in a more postive attitude than when they first came out. All the GM "A" Bodies are treated the same. If I could have more of these car's I would add a '73 GTO, '73 GS, '73 Cutlass 442, '75 Hurst Olds, '73 GA, '74 Laguna S3 and a '73 Laguna wagon. Like I have said before I have alway's had a positive experience taking my GA to cruises and car show's. By the way Ray you have an awesome looking GTO!!

Thank you Robert,

Pssst  whisper.gif It's a LeMans Sport Coupe with GT equipment. Been thinking about re-badging it though, all I need is three GTO decals and two interior door emblems and presoto biggrin.

I believe on the horizon we will have an in demand car. It is nice having something no one else has right now. Once the supply of 68-72 A bodies dries up and we have to be pretty close to that now people will discover these Colonades.

Robert you should let the guys on this Board know the numbers on your Grand Ams, I think people would be surprised at how few were actually Canadian sold and in your case with some unique options too.

Yeah Robert, Sunroof and 455! Not too shabby!

Ray, say it ain't so about the GTO badges in place of the Sport Coupe ones!

Robert's comments about the hot '73-77 A Bodies are well taken, I would love to have a '73 SC/GTO/GA/442/GS/SS/Laguna in my garage any day of the week.

Great thread!

Ray,

I knew you had a GT and I think it look's cool so in my opinion leave it as such!! I think I had GTO on the brain when I was typing. Here are the number's on my '75 GA coupe and sedan. There were 127 GA sedans brought into Canada but no break out per engine. Mine has the 455 and if the percentage is the same as the coupe only 30 had that engine. You could get the base 400 2bbl, next the 400 4bbl and the top engine was the 455 4bbl. My coupe is 1 of 1215 brought into Canada, 277 had the 455 and 48 came with the p.sunroof. The 48 cover's all engine choices. My best guess is that 11 came with the 455 and p.sunroof, making for a pretty rare car in Canada. I've never seen another one with my option's in Canada or the US.

No worries, I won't be making the GT into a GTO. I was just joking around and basically saying the car is pretty much identical except for an "O" after the "GT".

I don't think I have ever seen a 4 dr. Grand Am in person and with a 455 no less that is one rare car north of the 49th. I am going to assume the car came with bucket seats and console...am I right?

It's a bucket seat console shift car. You could get a bench seat in '75 only. It has the up graded cloth and vinyl interior, look's new, the body need's work thought. It also has p.window's, climate control air, sport mirror's, rally II's, tilt, electric rear defroster, cruise control and a am/8 track. Standard was rally guages, p. steering and brakes. One nice thing no vinyl top. Sterling silver with a oxblood interior. I added the scooped hood for a more aggresive look!!

My buddy's family got a 1975 Cutlass Salon with a Rocket 350, 180 HP. It had an international flag logo on each fender, it was also a bucket seat console 4 dr. sedan with these body colour insert wheel covers.  Looking back now I suppose the Salon and Grand Am sedans  were aimed at a similar market. My friend was the only driver in the family even though he was 17 he had nice Old's to drive. The one before that was a Dynamic 88.

Anyway we figured out that with the extra wheel base on the 4dr A body that the 454 dual exhaust system from the big Chevrolet would work on the Cutlass so it wasn't too long until that car got that.

I love the way these cars ride and handle. And while $18K may be steep, I do think these cars will have their day when they will command a reasonable price. Think about this: back in the early 90s you could buy a decent 61-64 Pontiac Catalina for $5-10K. The same cars today in the same condition - depending on the powertrain - will cost you $20-70K. Why - because the collectors interested in that era had the money, started collecting, and driving up the price. Same is true for the 67-69 SS427 Impala cars. Even as recently as 2003-04 you could pick up a convt for about $20k. Before the recession hit these cars were $40-85K; they've come down a bit now but they are nowhere near where they were 7 or 8 years ago.
