A newbe from New Dundee

61 pontiac 022.jpg61 pontiac 023.jpg61 pontiac 024.jpg61 pontiac 003.jpg  hello I'm Greg  from New Dundee. I've been browsing this site for some time, especially when dancing with the stars is on. I'm retired and bought a laptop last year. Then I proceded to bye a 61 bubble top. I've built hot rods for years and I needed another project. I finished the car at the end of august and now have 350 miles on, runs great, maiden run to Waterford pumpkinfest. I will try to include some pictures, swaped 261 for 275 hp -327 and 4 spd. with power disc brakes up front. I hope pictures turn up.

Nice car. My favorite "big" Pontaic.  I spend quite a bit of time on this site while dancing with the stars is on as well. I too have the 327 4 speed combo. It's a joy to drive.

Welcome. Your car is outstanding. I hope that i can see it in person next cruise season. 1961 is my personal favourite year for big Pontiacs. Our family car was one when I was a boy, pretty much the same colour as yours too.

Todd the upholstery is original ,I need to find original material to repair front seat where driver sets. The car had 48,000 miles. It needed rockers, and new metal in front and rear fenders. I do everything on car including paint. It is the top car on my bucket list.

Hello brother Gregory. We met at the Waterford big show, you and i and Chris spoke for a long period of time. After Chris left you and i continued to talk cars for another hour. It was a real joy talking to you sir. Was that not one fabulous car show, no wonder it took an hour getting in there. Greg your 61, what a wonderful piece of Canadian automotive history. Fabulous ride there my brother, you have a lot of reasons to be proud over that beautiful car. The guy with the silver and white 57 Pontiac that Chris speaks of, is me. Just in case you did not figure that one out. I love your car Greg, i only wish you left the 261 in it. Greg, now think about this. 261 fully blue printed and fully balanced. Port and polish the head, decked a bit for a higher compression, full flow oil filter adaption, three one barrel carbs on a clifford aluminum intake, full tube headers or at least a split cast header setup, HEI conversion or a Pertronix electronic ignition conversion, higher lift cam or even a solid lifter high lift camshaft. All this mated to a four speed stick and a 3.55 posi. What do you think brother. Cheers. George.

beleive me George Ithought of leaving the 261 in. I have a manifold with 3 carbs and headers.I'm not opposed to sixes, cause my1928 studebaker has a flathead 6 with a Ford thunderbird supercharger. Also I enjoyed our hour long chat.

To 57poncho, I saw your post about the rockers and Ialso had trouble locating pieces. Ilooked for 2-3 months, finally had them made up. It took a long time to complete them as there are 4 pieces. The front , the backing a 1 1/2 in. channel that runs the length of rocker and a piece that welds to channel inside Iguess adds strenth. Ialso mentioned the rocker part numbers. It might save you some time. Great looking car ,it's nice to see another good luck Gregory.

67poncho I haven't done anything yet and I don't know if I will. I have the whole history of the car from first owner to me.There is a Swift Curent dealer plate on the car. There seems to be more early 60's pontiacs out west. I find more 62-63s around my area. Iworked as a student at a pontiac dealer from 66-69 and Idon't remember seeing any 61 2drs but lots of 62s. The dealer plate says Century Motors Ltd. Swift Curent. Now one of the previous owners gave me info stating it was Swift Curent Motors. The car is already on the registry #750582 ,I think it was put on by sixtywagon.
