1966 Custom Sport 396 in BC

I really have my heart set on a Grande Parisienne or I would already own this car. I was close to buying it but it's just not a GP and if I'm going to spend money on an old car, I think it should be on the one that I want.

The disclaimer applies that I don't know the car or the owner other than I have spent some time on the phone with him and seen many pictures of it before and after it's restoration.  I think it's a beautiful car and certainly looks like a good deal vs. buying a project and redoing it.

His ad doesn't list all the toys but it has tilt, power windows and a 12 bolt posi.  He has to be into the car for a lot more than the asking price I'm sure.

Less than 59,000 original miles, numbers matching with many of the options available in 1966. Most drive train and chassis components professionally rebuilt. Interior 99% original. All paint and body work professionally done. Some minor blemishes render it not quite car show quality but it is a fantastic looking show and shine, driver. Has collector plates and many original documents. The car and the file of bills and documents must be viewed to fully appreciate the value in this fun, fast collector vehicle. The exhaust note is also very impressive!! I am open to reasonable offers. The two reasons I am selling it are: I do not use it enough (about 2,000 mi in last 5 years) and I want to finance another project car. If you wish photos I can email them to you.

I really want a Grande Parisienne with the different roof line.

I could put GP grilles and the GP tail panel into this car, but it still has the longer roof and I like the short roof because I have owned them in the past.

Otherwise I'd own it. I love the exterior colour and it's exactly the interior colour I want too.

I will never be able to buy a good project GP and get it to the point this one is for 10 grand but if I'm going to spend the money I want it to be on the car that I truly desire.

I guess you will know when you find it. I think this one would drive the same and it's pretty reasonable and for a bigger car it's nice with low miles.

It's a great deal for someone who wants a Parisienne, and the matching number 396 is a real bonus.

I am tempted to ponder it some more and decide if there is a price I could live with a Parisienne rather than a Grande Parisienne, and make him an offer. Some guys get upset if it's a lowball offer though, and the seller sounds like a really nice guy. I really wouldn't want to tick him off with an offer that he may take as an insult.

How much does a guy compromise when he's buying a car? It can be tough to find exactly the right one sometimes.

I have a cheetah and not a L79 so I understand. Most people would say Wahh!!, but I am happy with what I have. That car sounds great for the money and if he went to 7500.00 it probably would be done.

That is a very nice car priced well. Wonderful colour combo and very orignal. I'm sitting here in Toronto wondering how I'm going to fly out and bring it back before Christmas....never mind I'm turning into Hillar.

I agree. That is a great price for a numbers matching BB Pontiac. I give you credit Carl for resisting this one.

You are not the first one to tell me that....

Here's my order of preference on the 66 I'd like to own---

My old factory 4 speed GP back in my garage
A different big block factory 4 speed GP (The white car is just not do-able $$$)
Any factory 4 speed GP, small block is fine
Any 66 GP 2 dr ht I could convert to 427 4 speed
A big block 66 Pontiac that I could convert to 4 speed. (This car is a perfect candidate.)

This sucks! I'm at work this morning and it's super quiet so I've been working at the computer all morning on a big parts booking order. It's the type of number work that gives me tons of thinking time.

This stupid Parisienne just won't leave my head.....

Nice car. I'd store it for you, but I'd have to add a couple feet to the garage.
If you change your mind......I can go Lowball him and then send Marty in

Muncie, 4 speed console and new decals on the air cleaner. What more would you "need"

I've got all it needs to be a 427 4 speed except for the console.

And I know where the console is....

I had one of these 66 Custom Sports in Burgundy with a black int. The original 396 was changed out for a 283 and it had East Coast RUST. One of those cars from my youth that I have a lot of fond memories of, but it was one tire from the junkyard.
It still amazes me that there are any of these left in Canada. Back in 73 mine already had bondo a'plenty and patched floors! By the time the 70's were over there wasn't any of them left on the road around here.

I know what you mean Carl about the GP roofline and trim. Classy.

Beautiful colour combination.

Get rid of the console and drop in a TKO 6 speed!

Just keep all the bits and pieces to switch it back.

I have to agree with C1 that the Grande Parisienne is an attractive package, but Custom Sports have a lot going for them too.

Dollar wise I think it is a terrific deal.   smile

I don't disagree at all that the C/S is a nice car.

The only reason I'm so bent on a GP is for my own sentiment. I've had them when I was younger and want to again, so I guess we could call it mid life crisis!

Well, I know what you mean Carl...I passed on a lot of Parisiennes because I really wanted a Grande...I just thought this was such a nice car it might fill the gap for you till that Grande comes along.
