RE: Another Non-repairable (Joke) compliments of our government insurance

Ok  I understand   We are still talking damaged cars licence changed to salvage and not re-saleable?   right      so they are sold for parts?

Yes, once it's branded here, it's toast.

As a high school Auto teacher Carl's comments are so true. I try to keep the guys interested in the old stuff and work on it as well but it sure is hard for a young guy to get into the old car scene. If you are lucky enough to get an old car on the road and jump through all the hoops of safetying it, etc., then you get it on the road and get pulled over by the FUN POLICE!! Oh well, anyone got any plans to build a TIME MACHINE!!!!

This is still boggling my mind

The insurance company (who hate to lose money) write it off   and  what then?

Just about everywhere else the cars are sold to recover money   A lot of insurance companies here (Ont) and U.S. leave them clean title to get more bucks  ........

so the car is crushed?  set fire to?   or sent to U.S.?

No, they sell it at public auction. They just strip it of the right to be put back in to service.

This is where it gets even better....In Manitoba the government runs our Auto insurance ( Autopac) , and it is the government who wants all cars 1994 and older off the road .  They are willing to subsidize the loss on the insurance end with our tax $.
In this province our gov't run insurance company has a surplus of $ , and are not too concerned about recieving top auction $ for these 94 & older vehicles

These perfectly good "fixable" cars are being sold as a parts car now for "pennies" . I'm hearing auction stories that even the 95 & 96 vehicles that are repairable are selling at reduced  prices , as they will be worthless in a year or two in this province.

There is one recent case still pending . I believe it is a restored 57 or 58 Hemi Fury ( worth $70 K) that suffered an interior fire. The gov't wants to "write it off"  as well ....and against the owners wishes.  There is now an issue on its value.

Our Provincial Gov't currently holds "all the cards" in this game at this moment.

We have an election next year.  Time for a change !

So after public auction, are the cars sold out of province?   eg  the Firebird.. it could be fixed here, and put on road..   actually it could be certified, with the fender dented in....   Carl 1 could makes some bucks hauling these to his Ont.cottage

What may not be publicly stated is that these cars are being claimed against a Federal program for Canada to buy carbon credits on the world market. There is a kick-back to the insurance company for each car retired. They don't give a damn if they are repairable, that would be more work for less pay.

Some day years from now the entire scandal will be exposed once the crooks involved are retired.

I can understand labelling a total-loss-structurally-damaged-unibody car as irreparable. IMHO there are too many bodyshops and free-lancers buying damaged cars and making them look good to sell to unsuspecting buyers. Some of the newer unibody cars use high strength steels and alloys that the average backyard-bondo-sculpturer does not stand a chance of repairing correctly. There have been numerous examples of unibody cars being cut in half and a good rear "welded" onto a good front end. One big bump and it breaks in half again.

That said, where do you draw the line? Obviously there will be examples that should NOT be labelled irreparable. Others that should be but aren't.

The way I see it, it's once again a case of a few bad apples spoiling it for the rest of us. The true culprits are those who've been scabbing together wrecks, dressing them up to hide the damage and make them look good. Properly repaired is one thing, but you can't always tell by looking at the car.

i thought i would whey in this carbon foot print bull. i went to town in the wagon on monday to pick up some pipe had to stop for fuel guy acosted me saying way i was driveing such a gas guzzler putting out so many polutants. that just gets my blood boiling he was filling a suv. i shot back 40 years old new motor highly modified and right now 25mpg thats 10 liters too 100 and i can haul what ever i want since i only wiegh around 4000 pounds then i asked what his suv got. no answer. i added that people have been brain washed by the government oil companies and car companies because most have been to lazy to understand the basics of how a car works, most of society are sheep and we all know were they end up.i think i went a little over the to but the hype has to stop with the truth.

I couldn't have said it better! I am currently taking update courses on vehicle repair methods, construction, etc almost on a weekly basis and am not keeping up. I know many body shops are not keeping up that pace and are getting way behind the times.
