My Canadian reference book says both 3.36 and 3.08 for automatic cars, but does not distinguish between 6 and V8.

3.36 in almost every 64 I've stripped....

Is that out of a '64 Roger? What's an easy way of telling what gears are in my posi?

Is it in the car or on the bench?

Hi Carl ... in the car.

I take it, there isn't a easy way when it's under the car.

Jack it up, both wheels off the ground.

Rotate the wheels so one of them has the valve stem at a known spot (let's say the bottom)

Put a mark on the driveshaft at a known spot.

Roate the tire exactly one revolution and count the number of revolutions on the shaft.

A 3.08 ratio will rotate the driveshaft 3.08 turns for every one turn of the tire and so on...

This only works IF you have a posi.

and if you have a peg leg, jack only 1 wheel and rotate the wheel exactly twice. count the drive shaft revs,, adn whaaalah!! your ratio .

my 3.08 is in the shed, it actually came out of my 57 Pontiac , posi let go, and I installed a 3.73 peg leg that I had. kept the posi for now...
