hey guys another quick questiong im looking for a half decent camshaft and lifter set for my 283 im not planing on keeping the 283 forever nothing really fancy if it is a little more agressive lobe style i would be fine with that and what should i be looking for in a cam?
the edelbrock performer is a decent little cam jonathon, its not to mild, and not to wild
What he said, but you can buy a generic version, don't have to buy edelbrock, it's 204/214 duration, .420"/.443" lift, works great in a 283. I have it in mine that's in the 59, and also in the 305 in the rag. Love It!!!

Will this one work with stock valvesprings?
Yep it does, no issues so far and the 283 was run hard for 6 so so years in my 65 SS before findin a home in the 59. Pulls to 5500 no problem. That's with a performer intake and 600 edelbrock carb.
yup they,re a great lil "slap it in and run it cam". i got alot of buddies running the on close to stock engines, and the perform pretty good. like dano said, the generics are just as good. i think the summit brand is really cheap in price.
Just for comparison, your stock 283 cam in 67 part number 3896929 is
.390 intake and .410 exh. 195 /202 duration at 050 lift.
edelbrock part # EDL-2102 cam and lifter set
.420 intake and .442 exh 204/214 duration at 050 lift.
I have to agree that with a stock auto this would be a good cam. I have seen to many times freinds overcaming and ending up disapointed in performance at low RPM. Complaining that there stock engine performed better. Big cams mean tall gears and torque converters.
no thats a little steep. the duration is to long, must be a different part # tha cam your looking for is just a little milder
There Ok. Your just looking at the advertised duration not the duration at .050. The Lunati cam is a good price. Same lift and duration and lobe seperation as edelbrock.
Just remember Jonathon, that idf you go with Summit, either drive down & get it ,or get it shipped to an addr. in the US or UPS will "KILL" you in BROKERAGE fees
