I just bought a 1951 Fleetleader Deluxe with 23677 miles on it!...

I just recently purchased a 1951 Pontiac Fleetleader Deluxe that was built in Canada, that has only 23 thousand miles on it.
It runs great and is completely original!
I would love to hear from anyone that has any tid-bits of information to help me properly look after this sweet find, and advice of any kind.
I'm a 35 yr old, that loves classics, and wants to learn more about this car that is my new trophy to make sure I do things right!
For starters, I don't think my generator is working all the time???...after a 4 hour drive in the cold, in the dark, it started to not run as smooth, and the lights got really dim, heater blower was on, then the car stalled, and wouldn't start cause the battery was dead!
How do I properly diagnose and/or fix the problem???

I just recently bought a 1951 Fleetleader Deluxe with only 23677 miles on it!
It runs great, and is all original! The motor looks like you can eat off it, the paper labels are still clean and in tact, the original tires are on it from delivery in May of 1951, the spare has never been out of the trunk, jack never used(intruction tag still attached), the body is mint(no rust), and I have most original paperwork/manuals etc. (just no bill of sale)
I would like anyone to give me any good pointer to help me look after this new car of mine to help it run, and be appreciated by others in the future.
For starters, after a 4 hour long drive in the cold night, heater on, lights on, the car stalled after the lights got very dim, and motor started running rough.
Does this mean my generator is not working properly?...can it be cleaned/repaired?
How do I properly diagnose/fix this minor problem???

Does anyone know if the Indian Head emblem that is in the center of the grill is actually a light?..it looks like a lense type ornament!?

welcome to our forum!

congrat for your purchase, the grill emblem is not a  lightning up item, but on american model you could buy with the light hood ornament option.

for your generator problem, you will have to follow the correct procedure to troubleshoot it to fix it correctly.

Do you think we will be satisfied with only ONE picture of your baby???????biggrin

More than likely the generator isn't putting out and you drained your battery. I had a 51 Chev that did the same thing. I changed everything to 12 volt. But I think you can get the gen re-built.

Nope...The Indian head emblem that you are refering to isn't a light...I assume that you mean the 4" or so red plastic lense in the very center of the grill. Would be cool if it was though...not sure about having a red light in the front though...Welcome from Manitoba by the way.

Ya I know . The handle is from an old work computor sign in. Needed letters and 4 numbers so I have a 69 Beaumont and was going to put a 400 8 cylinder in it. Just sort of carried it over here. The car in the Avitar is my old 53 Belair I had in 1973. had a 327 four speed in it.
