I am not quite sure where you mean exactly.

Do you mean where the repro pan curls up at the back? I was happy with the fit all around on mine, I have to say. It took very little pushing or pulling to get the seam to be in line when I was set to butt weld. I will look but I'm not sure I took any pics there.

And yes to the in and out about 50 times fitting it!

I have yet to take underide shots, sorry.

As far as the floor meeting the sill, I left the 1" downturned lip on the edge of the pan and spot welded it to the sill. I haven't finished under there (painting) but I can get a couple of shots if you like. What I did there was drilled holes in that lip to plug weld it to the sill.

i was waiting for some one to notice,i always wanted one of these so when i saw this one i bouht it,ive custom made cool bumpers,but other then that shes stalk,the bumpers started on a 1969 datsun truck i made them wider,the back ones are stalk 1969 datsun

Looking VERY familiar, and looking great!

Isn't that fun, drilling a million little holes in the new pan???!!!

Don't forget the other holes too, for the floor support.

I can't quite tell in the pic, it's hard to see at the seam, butt or lap welding?

i decided to butt weld,its more professional,plus i think i must like a challenge,i had the floor in and out a ton of times,my back hurts today,but theres pills for this i'll be back in the garage today to finish that side hopefully.

I'm pretty sure I did my first spots along the tunnel. I had it well supported so it sat pretty much pefectly in place all around though. That took forever to get it all in place. I think I used blocks and then to shim them used phone books to get the right height under the blocks!

Seems to me too that I did just a few spaced along the tunnel, then a few front and back, then the lip on the sill last because I could push it into place if need be.

Man, why can't you live closer? Those pans are fun to do! I wish I could find first/second gen guys around here who want pans put in!

I never used any weld through primer. Maybe I should have but as soon as I get the car to our dealership I plan to put it up on the hoist, clean it all up underneath (grinding) and then paint them.

I remember it took a bit of tweaking on the repro pan as well as the edges of the original. Don't be impatient, keep removing and tweaking, testing, do it again. You want it so it pretty much sits "home" when you drop it down on the blocks.  If I remember right I pretty much only had to take a screwdriver to make sure it was pushed up against the sill when it came to do side 4.

 

I do recall I was very happy with the shape of the repro pan compared to the original pan. It was a bit off where it veers off at the point where the tunnel widens but that was easy to make fit.

yeh mine fits good i got it from early birds in alberta,i've got all day tomorrow to weld her in,im using .030 wire.

Hey timbuk i heard the invaders rusted out because of the rubber floor mats,sounds right......mine will get carpet...

I use the weld through primer all the time,, it tends to bounce if your heat is not hot enough...

AND remember....tac...tac...tac...

watch your heat ...nothing worse than standing back ..and a few minutes later hearing that awful snap as things shrink and pop.....( been there done that !! )

 Yes, good point. As tough as it is, patience is they key!

At the start it's easy but when you get near the end, filling in all those little spots is a bit of a test.

did you have to rubber mallet yours inot submission i had a hard time with the corner at the tunnel and toe board,ended up with a 1\16" gap or moor had a little burn through as well did you experiance this,i think the metal is a little thin,i"ve got my welder on the lowest setting

I think I had to use the mallet a little bit in one spot but not too much. More just had to lean a bit on the pan or the remaining floor a couple of times to get them to line up, nothing too serious.

I burned through in a few spots. I started off at the lowest setting but I switched to 2 after a while and used less time on the trigger. I found my results were a better penetration and less burn through that way for some reason. It makes no sense maybe but that worked the best for me. The key seemed to be shorter blasts on the gun, and patience, patience, patience!

this,i think the metal is a little thin,i"ve got my welder on the lowest setting


 Keep in mind the prize at the end of it all. I guarantee it will put a smile on your face when you look at it finished and say "I did that"!!!

oh yeh i learned to keep my air hose handy to put out the fires,this thing looks like it was diped in undercoating,are all acadians covered in undercoating tar sludge cant imagine what kind of gun sprayed this stuff

ok back at it today,moor welding,plus under seat floor brace,rubber malet and body hammer came in handy,welded the middle of the brace and worked my way out that was good,i think these import floor pans are good but the metal differs in the pan all over
