Besides the L72 were there any benefits to these full size cars? How much faster were they over say an L78 Nova or Chevelle?

For NHRA racing, cars were rated and put into classes based on HP versus curb weight. An L72 BelAir or Biscayne fell into the favorable side of the equation versus other cars. When guys ordered these cars, it was because they looked at the factory curb weight versus the rated HP and then chose the right body style. That's why there were a couple of L72 Kingswood wagons built. They fell into the light end of that particular class.

That's right. Those wagons come up occasionally on eBay.

One changed hands recently, I think it was written up on the SS427 or the 69Chevrolet sites.

Neat car, has the rare IW coded 396. This motor was rated at 319HP, it had lower compression to run on regular instead of premium.

I seriously considered this car about a year ago when it was first offered, and the considered it again a few weeks ago now that our $ is more favorable. Didn't sell at first , but was relisted and now it looks like it has now sold .....Does anyone know who bought it ?

I want to thank everyone for the great pictures of my favorite cars.  I love the post, drag cars, stock & superstock from the 60's.

If I keep this car, I would like to build a streetable clone of a 60's NHRA stock car.  Possible L-79, 4 spd clone with poverty caps and steel wheels, small slicks for the strip.
