That is a fine splined Super T10 with a TH400 yoke. Unless its destroyed inside that is a screamin' deal.

If I'm right,it should have a 2:43 first gear

That should be the 2.64 first gear if its from a vette. Only a few 1974 cars with high torque big blocks for the 2.43 first gear from the factory. Still a really good transmission. I swapped a 3.42 first gear'd ST10 into my camaro. Works great with the hurst on it.

I wonder if all the mounting ears are on it, he has two of them covered up and its common for them to break if someone tried to install the trans improperly.

Yeh, that rag is kind of conveniently placed to hide the ears, might be just a coincidence...

According to trans sites, 2 grooves on the input shaft is a 2.43 first gear close ratio box.

I'd like to buy this trans if anybody around Gatineau area is available to look at it for me. I'm sure Greyhound shipping wouldn't be too bad.

I never even looked at the input shaft, but you are right - 2 grooves = 2.43 first. That is the strongest factory gearset.

Its obviously not from a 78' vette like the guy says. They are all 2.64 first gears.

I had an all aluminum ST-10 from a mid to late seventies 'Vette with 4 grooves-2:88 first gear.Very rare.I haven't seen another one since.Should've kept it!!

If I recall correctly the 2.88 gear was never offered in a production vehicle - it was probably a replacement gearset in an original case. It probably was the 9310 gears also. The 2.88 first was a popular upgrade.

I went and checked my old notes on Super T10's when I was racing with them.

The only listed production gearsets I have are 2.43, 2.64, and 3.42 firsts.

I have seen a few 2.43 ST10's. All of them were behind high torque 455 pontiacs in 1975 (not 74 as I said above). Apparently this gearset was offered with the L82 vette as an option, but every L82 vette I have seen has the 2.64 first gear, so this much be pretty rare. This trans is rated for 375ft-lbs IIRC.

2.64's were common in vettes, camaros, firebirds etc with the 400, and SBC from 74-79. I have had a bunch of these. Rated at 325ft-lbs if I remember correctly.

3.42's were availble from 80-83 and most are cast iron cased. 82 and later F-bodies have one with a modified trans mount that is at something like a 15 degree angle. These were rated for 275ft-lbs.

2 rings = 2.43

3 rings = 2.64

4 and 5 rings = 2.88

6 and 0 rings = 3.42

Either way, that is a rare and desirable transmission.
