1955 Chevy Truck - custom built car hauler!

I am putting this up for a friend of mine - here is what he sent me. Please respond to him at harry_got_up@hotmail.com

"This is a one-of-a-kind 1955 Chevy Truck, built as a car hauler. It has a
hand-made 4 door crew cab, probably the only one of its kind. I bought
it for a failed family car business from a car collector in New York.
He used it to haul his hot rod collection coast-to-coast. It has a
tilt, hydraulic box as well as a trailer hitch, and a sleeper behind
the cab. It was custom built in California. It has a rebuilt Chevy 454 Big
Block taht runs strong. I have also rebuilt the radiator system, and added a new fuel
pump. The transmission is a four speed with bull low, and a two speed
rear. G license is all that is needed to drive this truck (its a 5 ton).

It has a new clutch and new brakes all around. The roof top air
conditioner needs rebuilding. Twin fuel tanks under the running boards
and fuel tank about 200 US gallon capacity. Needs two new front
tires, and a one worn king-pin. Truck has an electric 2 speed rear
end.

For car collectors, it is a completely self contained unit with
water tanks and hoses, an air compressor with tanks. It is wired for a
generator, and one of the saddle storage compartments is setup for one, but
there is currently not one in it.

All of the storage bins are in excellent condition with lights inside. There are
interior and exterior body lights. It has a 9000 lb. winch (works perfectly), as well
as multiple tie down points for inside for securing vehicles. We have drive this truck
with a 5000lb vehicle in the rear, and could barely tell it was there.

If you are a serious car collector going to shows with cars, this is the ultimate centerpiece.
I have driven it with a 5000lbvehicle in the back without a problem - you barely know its there.

Cab is very clean, and sits five people comfortably with plenty of
room all around. The sleeper can hold two people, it has a pass
through from the rear of the cab. Tilt hydraulics work well, but the
rear roll-up door needs replacement.

Measurements: From the floor to the floor bed 50 inches high. From the
floor to the top of the box 126 inches high. The ramps are 9 feet
long. overall length 32 feet 6 inches. inside dimensions of box 17
foot 3 inches long. 89 inches wide and 78 inches high.

$12.5K uncertified, $15K certified. Truck is located
just outside Toronto, in Milton. If bought certified, can deliver it to a nearby boarder crossing.

I have many more pics of the vehicle."

It gets surprisingly good gas milage for what it is. He said it gets about 10mpg at 100kph with a car in the back.

What really hurts is actually filling the gas tanks - they hold over 200 GALLONS! You could probably drive to florida and back if you filled it right up.

Considering the 5 ton straight truck I used to drive for the same gas milage on the highway with a 427, I am not surprised. Around town it got maybe 5 mpg if you were lucky.
