Welcome from NB. Nice ride you got there. Spent 4 years in Goose Bay. Here is my first experience with Newfoundlanders: Posted to Goose June 89 from Ontario - got to the Ferry (1st crossing of the season) - it was delayed 3 weeks for weather. Myself and family left the vehicle on the rock and flew to Goose. 3 weeks later I was on a plane to get my truck, I was enjoying the flight until I realized that I didnt bring my keys to the truck. I know....dumbass. I called the nearest dealership to see if they could help. He asked where I was, and was on his way. He told me to get my wife to photocopy my key in Goose and fax it to the base in Gander. When he got there it was pouring buckets of rain, and the truck had a flat tire. He took the fax and was muttering some numbers as he used a handheld key cutter. He cut me three keys, then I waited in his truck while he changed my tire. He was in a shirt and tie, and soaked to the skin. He spent about 3 hours on me and my problems. I was expecting a large bill for this service. The man would not take a cent from me. After 4 years living and working in Nfld I found out that he wasnt such an exception, the place is full of the nicest people. The downside to the story is that my wife took the key to my office to fax it, so all my new co-workers got to enjoy my misery, and never let me live it down.

Since you were there in '89 and I got there in '88, I probably ran into you at one time or another! I worked at Labrador Motors my entire time there. I was driving a green '70 Parisienne 4-dr sedan, my '70 Parisienne 2-dr H/T, my Gold and White '67 Grande 4-dr H/T and my ex Forestry Green '71 Chev 3/4 ton 4X4 truck. I always drove something old.

Wow, I must have been living in a bunker back then. They had to be the only Ponchos in Happy Valley! Great People there!

You must not have been in the Valley much... Did you get work done at the dealer?

I didnt get any dealership work done. I was driving a Bronco 4x4 at the time. I used to do 'bank runs' once a week for the Base. Bank of Nova Scotia (maybe RBC) I believe, down in the valley. I cant even recall where the dealership was, but I have lived so many places since, I get them confused sometimes. Other than that, I worked during the day, and looked after the kids while the wife worked at night, and didnt get out much. I miss the place, the fishing at Lobstick was so unbelievably good, it has made the rest of the planet, barely worth trying.

(there was a mechanic near the bar/tavern that was a log building, that I had do some work for me, the rest I did myself)

You passed by the shop everytime if you went down the main drag. Just past Bennetts Gas Bar to the left. Never fished at Lobstick but the Churchill Road is much straighter than it use to be. There were alot of cars I should have kept/saved. As you know, rust free cars!!!
