Are the fenders the same for 1968 and 1969 Beaumonts ??

They show different parts numbers for 68 and 69 and also in the Chevelle parts book they have different parts numbers for 68 and 69, not sure what the difference is, some one else might be able to shed some light on it. I'm just going by parts numbers.

The one difference I know is the marker light location. But 68 will bolt to a 69 body.

68 and 69 are different only in the side marker location and dimension of the holes for the lamps. you can use chevelle fenders on a beaumont but you have to modify the grill 'extension' areas. dave

Are 65 repo cheveelle front fenders the same as Beaumont or do they have to be modified as well?

the only difference came after 68 when they introduced side marker lamps that are different from 68 to 69 for the chevelle , but not shure for the Beaumonts

As for 65 Chevelle fenders in general the front leading edge is more blunt, you will have to remove all the chevelle eyebrow blind nuts with it's backing metal, and trim down the inside edge of the fender to make room for a beaumont eyebrow. The Beaumont eyebrow holes will have to be drilled also. The shape of the repos up near the windshield has a different shape and might have to be modified to match your oem hood. The repos are thin but that's the way they all are. The blunt comment would only be noticed by very few people and it looks fine. A lot of beaumonts over the years have had Chevelle fenders put on them. I had three days into modifying a set of nos chevelle fenders for my 65 Cheetah. I am not a fan of the repo ones.

We have just ran into an oversight on the build regarding the use of a repo fender on my 68. The marker light hole is larger than the Beaumont original and seems to be cut for a Chevelle marker light. The car is now painted and being assembled so the only two options are #1 (easier) make the original fender marker light largers as is the repo and use Chevelle marker lights or, #2 (long and problematic) weld a patch into the repo and remake the hole the same size as the original marker. Does anone have a number 3 idea or what is your input. This is not an SD but all of the build has been trying to stay as close to original as possible. (except the drivetrain).

NEVER EVER heard of this, in my 32 years i've sold used fenders, nos fenders and repro fenders from chevelles to beaumonts and from beaumonts to chevelles and the marker lamp has always been the same. G.M. would NEVER stamp out 2 different holes on the same year fender. I repeat the only difference is, 68's to 69's is the size and location of the marker lamp but the fender will bolt right on no problem. The only difference from it being on a beaumont or chevelle is the little bracket that is spot welded at the front side corner area where the grill extension area is. Would like to see pictures, also the '68 beaumont marker lamps have the stainless steel bezel and rubber seal that are exposed and sit on the outside of the fender, are yours like that?? Just trying to help out your dilemma, cheers dave

I will try to get a close up of both sides for you Dave. The car is out in Chilliwack right now so I have not had a chance to look at it myself. I was informed that the hole size on the repro was about a half inch longer than the original size and only fit the repro chevelle marker with the larger chrome bezel but not my original Beaumont light. It sounds as though the difference is small enough that we missed it on the build but just enough difference to make the origianl not fit. To be continued..

Well I made a mistake on the hole size, the actual problem is the two outer holes on the repro for the bigger Chevelle bezel. Now I have to make the decision of going with Chevelle markers or welding up the holes and repainting the whole fender which can be a gamble even though the car has fresh paint.

So its just the 2 little bezel mtg holes then. Hmm, any easy ideas anyone?? Is this a "original restoration" or a "not quite original resto" ?

The only difference in an original fender is the marker light hole size and position. I have heard of aftermarket marker locations being in the wrong location, the holes are too small and the holes are too large.

Is the marker light hole rectangle or is the pointed on the ends? The first is 68, the second is 69.

Here is a picture of the 69 fender

Thanks Brad. Yes the whole is rectangular and it does fit either the Beamont or Chevele light. The problem is the 2 outer holes for the chrome bezel that the Chevelle has comes already stamped on the repro fenders which we missed. Now that the car has been painted we only have 2 options, re do the fender with some sheet metal and then re-paint the whole thing or change all 4 markers to Chevelle lights.
I don't have a photo right now as I will not be at the car for a couple of days. I think it is one of those situations of all or none to make it appealing, going with the Chevelle markers adds a bit more chrome to the sides but takes away the pure Beaumont look.
Thanks

Ya but i bet most people wouldnt know the difference in lights, where trying to make the fenders match might be harder

Can you put something decorative in the holes to fill them? I'm thinking a couple tiny reflectors - or maybe those Pontiac coins - or a "Cheetah" emblem biggrin.   Sounds pretty hokey when I say it, but there may be something you could use that would actually look like it was supposed to be there. It's the kind of thing you'd have to try it and see what it looked like. I've seen cars with a small light on the fender for for their anti-theft system...

Depending on the colour, could you put a plastic bezel - like a picture frame matt around both lights so they match and the holes are covered?

Well I decided to put the Chevelle ones on but will probably have to change the backs to match. Thought about the emblems but decided to stop at just the bigger chrome bezels.

Thanks everyone, hopefully this build will be over soon it's been almost a full 10 months now, but the old deluxe has been saved and given a new life.
