RE: Red River Manitoba Flood 2011 thread

Its inconceivable how much that has to suck. Glad to hear you got a shred of good news. It puts my struggles for today into perspective, good luck and hang in there.

For anyone familiar with the area, there is another good live camera. This one is on Interstate 29 just one mile south of Customs. This view is looking north towards the border. I29 is a continuation of highway 75, the 4 lane from the border to Winnipeg that passes through Morris.

Since the camera gives still shots, I am not sure if this link will give you the same shot over and over or always an updated shot, if you know what I mean.

How about this one?

If you get a map, to to the absolute top right hand corner and click on the gray rectangle for the camera.

This is a quote from our daily provincial flood report. I am excited to say the least. I don't know what the news will be exactly but it's exciting news, that is for sure.

"Water levels on many tributaries in the Red River basin are now declining, and weather conditions in the Red River Valley have been favourable. The forecasted peak for the Red River in Manitoba will be adjusted to reflect these more favourable conditions. It is anticipated that the revised forecast will be completed and posted online later today."

We just got our good news! The predicted peak is lowered by a foot, It was supposed to be at best 2009, at worst it would be a foot over 2009. Now they say a foot lower than 2009 or at worst, 2009.

Also, the crest (peak) should be here by next Friday at the latest rather than 9 more days.

Ya-Hooooo! It's a start at least.

In 2009, we had two separate incidents involving 4X4's ending up about 75% submerged.  People just don't seem to respect washouts.

I taped this around 7:30 tonight. It got quite a bit worse since then. Only about 1/2 hour ago two young kids came through it with their GMC 4X4. My neighbour was with me and we told them we didn't need any more incidents like that and explained they have NO idea what lies under the water. We also mentioned the letters R,C,M and P if we saw them around here doing it any more.

For those of you around here in 2009, you recall a kid sinking his Jeep when he was out playing on washed out roads.

Now he has a GMC extended cab 4X4 and today I had to explain to him in less than pleasant terms that doing that again this year (which he is) is not the most brilliant decision.

I was speechless. I was boating alongside the road when he pulled up and drove through a bad washout. He stopped to talk when I pulled the boat up on the road and got out of it. I don't think he was expecting the greeting he got.

Some guys....disbelief

Tremendous mechanical talent but doesn't seem to grasp safety real well...
