Red River Manitoba Flood 2011 thread

This is shot by our neighbour 1/2 mile north. All the video is within 1/2 mile of our house.  From about 1:21 to 1:28 is at our home. 1:21 is the coming in the back way to our house, and then right at 1:28 is him driving past the back of our house. Then 1:29 is at the neighbour's.

One real good shot of how hard it washes over the gravel roads. It's easy to see why they wash out!

I'm a happy camper. Sat night my recoil puked on the 20hp and the backup engine is a 4hp. That is a slowwwwwwww ride the 1/2-3/4 mile to the truck with the 4hp. Today at lunch I ran to my brother's auto/boat business and he was kind enough to loan me a recoil. We are flying again!!! My 15 minute ride will now be about 4 minutes.

Yes, some of the scenes are amazing when we get still water and a nice sunset. I have some beautiful shots taken in a couple of floods past.

It is a lot less stressful with our nice high driveway still showing. It has more a confined feeling once the driveway vanishes. It will be close this year whether or not it goes under.

And for those who wonder why I'm boating, there is a bad washout on the main road 1/2 mile north. If I was a total no-fear idiot I could maybe still drive through with a big heavy 3/4 ton 4X4 but a similar style drowning about 20 miles northeast of here a couple of weeks ago make me think twice. I want to grow old if I can!!!

A big problem with the flood is the amount of mice it forces out of the area up to our house.

In a previous flood, I discovered a mousetrap that is very simple to operate and has an incredible draw for the mice, way better than bait in a snap trap.

In the picture above each red dot is a dead mouse. Any detectives here figure it out? I have not altered the scene in any way, and no, we don't have a cat!

Nope, it's not a 12 gauge mousetrap. At least not in this picture.

The trap is in the picture....

Did they get 'drawn' in by the blades and shot out the chute? Or maybe someone went a little crazy with the garden rake?

Mind you I do see a couple "small animal" traps in front of the go-cart. Skunks? Racoons?

The mower isn't even a runner any more. I just walk by and simply yank the starter rope. This morning 4 dead or severely wounded mice came shooting out, exactly as pictured! Then killed one more that was hiding under a tarp, 3 more that were hiding under the boat at the shoreline and then came to work. Phew, hard work before leaving for work!!!

Nuh-uh, sorry.

I bought it in 1974, brand new when I was 16. Sold it a couple of years later, it stayed in the extended Stevenson family. I forgot about it until one day when we were talking bikes in the lunchroom at work. I remembered my cousin had ended up with it and I hadn't seen it for a good 10-12 years. I called him for fun. He said it was sitting in his garage and his wife wanted him to get rid of it. That day after work I was having my mandatory 15 minute after-supper nap and he pulled up, unloaded it and told me I owed him a pie and coffee! It still runs excellent!
