RE: So who's 70 2+2 is for sale on T.O. kijiji???

I e-mailed for a price-they replied "its all on kijiji"

I think Ray is right with the numbers-I recall Hillar wanting an insurance appraisal on Clint's car for around 12 and a retail sales tax appraisal around 4 I believe he told me he paid around 10 but had it shipped here. Dean (appraiser) told me the car was quite a good car-but I agree with everyone that these cars may not bring this much money-only time and the market (willing buyer) will tell

The 2+2 is in my opinion the best car in Hillar's collection. You could buy this car and drive it 1,000 in a second. It is powerful and clean. I have been under that car because I supervised all of the work done on that car in Toronto since JB Racing shop was adjacent to my office at the time and Joe and I are good friends. There isn't a spec of rust under that car. The wheel lips will cut your fingers they are so true. I don't know how many have driven a 400 sbc but I have only driven two, the other was in a pick up. This car, for a big rig, digs in and hauls, it has stump pulling torque and even with that posi it squats right and peels off two long black strips of rubber. It is by far a nicer looking car than the Laurentian but you only need to see the pictures to undertsand that. The option list is quite long and the two tone paint with the roof moulding is very unique. I can tell you that Hillar pored over $3,000 into that car once it arrived in Toronto and it is as nice an example of a survivor as you will find.  I wonder though what happene dto the right 1/4 panel as te ad says needs TLC :(

The Laurentian has a heater core issue which can easily be cured. The overheating likely easily solved as well. Hillar had a very important position in the mining industry and he just didn't have time to monkey around on the cars. Our plan was to have spent last spring readying the car for for the stock drags and we were all going to go down to Michigan and have some fun with the Canadian Green Monster. Hillar had pre-cleared its entry since most US Pontiac guys would have had a fit with a 454 showing up but they were looking forward to seeing it. We had conscpripted Joe from JB Racing to pit crew as well, a seasoned mechanic, CASCAR driver and Hot Rodder. It was going to be a time to remember.

Send an email  and ask, appraisal on it is $18,500. I drove it once and it had bad  brakes and no dash but it was hard to resiist, 400 - 350 HP and a rock crusher, testosterone on wheels :)

I may as well chime in.   When these cars were posted a few weeks ago, I indicated I had dibs on the Laurentian and I've been in discussion with he family as fortunately I grabbed the phone number from the listing before they dissappeared.  The fact I was the previous owner of the 2+2 helped me.

In doing my research on the Laurentian, I also started to converse with the previous owner.  We're making an honest effort to purchase the Laurentian, but dealing with the estate is somewhat of a challenge, as they don't know much about cars, etc.   And it's not made any easier with me in Calgary, and the car in the Greater Toronto Area.  There is also uncertainty regarding the transfer of the title from Hillar's name to the estate.

The cars were listed again on Kijiji yesterday, initially with no price or contact info, which now appears.  Unfortunately the price of both cars has increased from a few weeks ago.  The previous owner an I are still making a run for the Laurentian.

Re both cars, unfortunately much of the info or history of the cars have been lost.  When I sold Hillar the 2+2, it included the original bill of sale, and a lot of the maintenance history, including when it had a valve job and replacement cam done a few years before I bought it.   I'm sure all that is gone.

I am sure the records are gone as well. As I mentioned a number of times on here the family removed 6 or 8 construction bins of material from the house after Hillar's death. I was invited to the home after all this occurred and there was not a sign of any of the automotive literature and magazines we all know Hillar collected.

I can speculate about this turn of events. Hillar's father's Lawyer called me and asked me if the previous prices were too low. The concern with an estate that has gone bad is each party thinks the other is trying to do something untoward to the other.

The ad lists address as 100 Central Park Drive which is a Public School in Markham. George is a school caretaker so I wonder if the cars are being stored at the school he works at. Some of the photos look like a large institutional building and parking lot.

an appraisal for estate purposed prepared by a court approved appraiser clears up the value confusion and debate. I do them often. Someone in that area should do them

don t know but in my experience "TLC" is almost always more than that especially when there's no picture of it

Interesting too that they threw out all the paperwork but not the old appraisals

 This is very sad. Upsetting.

I guess if you don't have heirs or have a will, at least an up-to-date one ...

I agree with you on the 400 SB. I drove a 70 Impala with this powertrian, original 2 barrel car with duals. It would easily break the tires loose. I also had a 74 Impala with this engine and even accounting for lower compression and smog equipment, it would move.

Car was near perfect last time I saw it on September 18, 2010 when it was taken from my storage facility. Hillar spent several hundred dollars having the Dent King remove all of the dings on the car after it came to Toronto.

Problem must have occured after photo was taken, looks good in picture.

The 2+2 really is a beautiful/interesting car.

So what should the true market value for that car be now?

Ray i guess the very sad lesson learned here is that everyone that has anything of any real value should have a legal and very binding WILL. Also in a case like this those wonderful cars should have been left to people that would actually appreciate them. I would have left them to good close Pontiac buddies that would do the right thing with them. Instaed this !@#$%^ mess with Hillars family. Without a will Hillar left this legal mess and the family greed factor takes over. Sad very sad indeed. I have made it very clear in my will, that both my oldies are being left to my brother. My brother Mike has a love and appreciation for my cars. If i did not have my brother then my best friend, another old car guy would get at least my 57 Pontiac. My advise to all the old Pontiac fraternity out there is to have a proper legal WILL that spells everything out to the letter. Cheers. George.

I can comment on this as I am the previous owner.

If I recall, the original owner (that's who I bought the car from) stated that something fell on the car either while it was on the lot, or shortly after she bought the car.  It was just behind the C pillar, along the top edge of the 1/4 panel.   The repair can be seen from inside the trunk, and there's a small crack in the body filler on the outside.  It's been there for 40 years, so I don't think it's getting worse any time soon.

 Carl-take care of yourself-

this car thing happens all the time-there was a prominent collector down here had 35 very desirable cars, 5 daily drivers a couple rental properties and a multi million dollar home, he died with no will about a year after his wife did, his wife's grand neice was the only heir, the home which was probably 4-5 million is on the market for 1.5, the cars once thought to be 2 million worth were appraised for 1.5 mil and sold at auction for $540,000-----

in ten years people may not even want these cars-they are just cars (tangibles)

time is what we need (I'm pretty sure Hillar would have liked some more)-take care of your health Carl

I think this wonderful Pontiac is cheap in price. Can our economy be that BAD! This is more than a fair price but i would not want the Hilllar family to know that because it sounds like they do not deserve Hillars wonderful Pontiacs anyway. The whole subject surrounding Hillar and his Pontiacs is a very sad story. George.

These cars seem to be in the right price range; I'm sure whoever is interested in them will find some room to bargain if there is a strong desire by the parties involved to settle the estate.
