What can i remove from the engine?


There are alot of things on my new engine i don't think i need like emisson control stuff what shold i remove. it's a early 80's engine i want it to make it look like a 60's engine what should i take off? Frankly i have no idea what im doing i just learned about 50's and 60's engine's...... such a learning curve lol

Sounds like you need a visit from 73SC and 65camino. Post a picture that will help but don't do anything is you are not sure.

What can i remove from the engine?


The engine in question is a mid 80's 305. I think if he put on a non egr intake and a points style distributor, nobody would be none the wiser.  Some new chrome valve covers will spruce it up a little too! biggrin

There is an aweful lot of hosing on that engine. A EGR block off plate is available. Not sure PVC is needed and pretty certain hose from PVC to charcol canister is for sure not needed.

vacuum line to the distributor is needed. one to the power brakes if you have any. vacuum for the secondaries. choke not much else. if you remember looking at the 283 in my 55. not much hanging around the top. sending units for gauges maybe

You will have to have later model valve covers with the hole in it for PCV. Earlier blocks used a hole in the back for crankcase venting but this block won't have that hole. You run a vacuum hose from the base of the carb (likely a 3/8" port at the front) to a PCV valve in one cover and then some style of vent in the hole in the opposite cover.

 I can't see your PCV but I assume it is coming out behind the distributor to the back of the carb?

IM going to get it running  and alright looking then slap it in and run it till it dies then swap in my 283 when i finish replacing everything in it =)
