1977 Grand Prix Convertibles

Does anyone have any info on Grand Prix convertibles made during 1977?

I think you need to know what company did the conversions, as it wasn't GM.

After Ford got out of the convertible picture in 1973, Mopar in 1971, AMC 1967 and finally GM in 1976 there was a sudden demand for convertible conversions. Some were nicely done but other just looked like crap with the top up. I remember there were Mustang II conversions, plus 2nd gen Firebird / Camaro conversions. I remember seeing a new 1981 Camaro Z28 convertible conversion in Kitchener at a Chev-Olds dealer. There were several companies doing conversions back then, probably less than a dozen. People were expecting them to become collectors items but it didn't really happen. Then in 1982 Chrysler brought out the K car convertible as a Town & Country and a Dodge 400. The Mustang convertible came back for 1983. GM brought out a Chevy Cavalier and Cadillac Eldorado convertible shortly after. At that point the conversion companies ceased to be heard from or at least went back to what they were doing before. Even AMC sort of was included with a product of the Renualt / AMC joint venture, called the Renault Alliance for 1987 (if I remember correctly).

I seem to recall Popular Mechanics or Mechanics Illistrated did an article in the late 1970s on the convertible conversion companies. I wonder if I still have any old issues anywhere?

I remember the Dakota convertible pickups. They were made through 1989. For 1990 the Dakota got a V8 option, but the convertible cab was dropped.
