drum to disc


so I changed my front brakes from manual drums with a dual style master to the SSBC

manual disc,it stops a lot staighter,but still required a lot of pedal effort. So I put in a power booster and new dual master, but you still have too push pretty darn hard to slow down quickly. The kit came with a adjustible prop. valve, which I placed between the stock prop. valve for the drums and the rear brakes.Should I eliminate both adj. valve and the stock valve, and put one in from a front disc/rear drum power brake car?Has somebody else had these same issues?

Valve has to be set for front disk/rear drums
not to sure how on mine the valve was preset from the supplyer

with the valve assembly mounted under the master cyl.

mine came set up as well.. disc front drum back proportioning valve.. stops really well..

eliminate the stock prop valve.

look under the dash, should be 2 holes for the pushrod from the M/C to the brake pedal, try the other hole, it changes your leverage and mechanical advantage.

Thankyou for your replies, I changed the rod to the other hole when I changed to power, maybe I'll put it back. I looked at a few different Pontiacs at the Surrey show today,most of all had the prop. valve up under the master like your pics.So I think I will try a new prop. valve, Its the only old part in the brakes not replaced, other than the pedal. Cheers.

I changed over to factory discs on my A-body, I left the factory prop. valve. The only thing I can say, is that the pedal is real high, , other than that, the pedal felt slightly harder , but in a good way.

I shall find a diagram of the two different prop. blocks and see what the difference is,but I would like to use a factory set one instead of the adjustible one.Must be a spring and check ball system?

It stoped great.........  

you just got used to more effort to push...once I did it was great

my understanding of the proportioning valve is just that, to set up your front and rear Bias braking?

Excellent illustration Lefty! and yes , it just controls pressure bias front to rear, the SSBC kit I purchased included a adjustable valve that just limits flow to the rear.
Soooo, it will be removed, along with the drum valve, and a proper disc\drum valve will be used. I thank you guys for your input! Andy.
