torque converter to flywheel


my torque converter is backed off right now and i was wondering if i need to wiggle it out a little or should the bolts just pull it into place it's only out by a 1/4 at most........ should i just put the bolts in tighten them a little bit then torque them down =)

Pull it towards the flexplate either by hand or a smaller screwdriver at the bottom of the tranny till the converter is touching the plate.... Install the three bolts first and then tighten evenly.

If it is the torque converta that is in 1/4" and the tranny is tight to motor you can pull in with bolts. If the torque converta is sticking out 1/4" and you try to pull the transmission into the block you will break the pump in transmission! You need to turn the converta and push it into the transmission till it clicks into the last knoch in the pump. BOSSY.

 Nice to see someone has the converter installed correctly for a change!!! Usually it's the "why can't I get the bellhousing tight to engine" question!!!

     You will see on the flexplate there are 2 horizontal holes and one vertical hole.  Once the converter is against the flexplate , start with the vertical hole and you can tighten that bolt first and then the other 2 holes will line up. The 3 holes will line up in any position , but if you tighten the horizontal bolts first the vertical bolt may not be dead on.  May save you some time and this way you only have to turn the flexplate one full turn.

 Yes, I could have told him to locate the "master" first, but because of Jon's limited experience and to avoid confusion I summized it easier to suggest to install all 3 first to line everything up before tightening.

 And that would be the other reason why I didn't suggest he use the converter bolts to pull the converter to the plate... Much less chance of breakage!

 Either way, he'll git 'er done!!!
