Hooker Headers


I have just put on new hooker longtube headers and I can't put the next piece of exhaust pipe on because the transmission crossmember is in the way. Any solutions? Ill post a pic if that helps. Custom make a new crossmember....?

The car has original crossmember and was single exhaust previously but the crossmember is simectrical on both sides if that helps? :s

Looks close though. why not loosen headers a bit so you can align things then tighten up once it's all in place.

oh it looks close on the pictures for some reason but there bascially is no way it can squeeze in there. Its hard to get a picture under the car. My options ive figured so far are: piece pipes around, ive seen people notch the crossmember (not for me), take crossmember off and build a new one? or i dont really know, as to why Im looking for guidance here.

Exhaust shop should be able to slightly "flatten the pipe [if need be] to clear the xmember. Had to do that on the 64 Catalina when I moved the xmember ahead for "turbo 350" swap, your xmember is pretty "punky" w/rust issue, but you can "notch" them then weld in a curved reinforcement pc. that works well too!!!!!!

Is it going to fit though? It would really suck to ship it then find out it doesnt even fit. It definatly needs to be replaced I was hammering at it today and it is pouring out rust. I was thinking about notching it but it's needing to be replaced

Is it sure to clear my exhaust? And a friend told me I can bring the collector to a shop in ottawa and can bend the pipe under the crossmember. worth a shot?

update! Problem solved= Sledge Hammer. So I finally got the collector on after figuring that if I sent it to a shop to get bent it would probably restrict exhaust flow so I might as well just try and bend it myself. It turned out awesome ill upload some pictures. I dropped the top of the hammer on the pipe instead of using the hammers itself and I got a great rectangular pipe from the flat side of the hammer and the ground which doesn't look too restrictive. So I go to mesure the other collector and it is a perfect fit? The driver side header is a perfect fit to the whole car and required no bending of the pipe. Why would the people at Hooker's do this? Was it a mistake? Pics soon
