Fables Beaumont

The long week of waiting has ended. Picked up the Beaumont with my wife (can't believe she wanted to come) about 1 hr from here this morning. Owner was "sad" to see it go after having it for 22 years but like he said I have 2 projects on the go and only have the time for one.

Once again, thanks to everyone on the site for their knowledge and expertise. I was fortunate to find this place 10 months ago. Even the flat bed Driver wanted pics today (he had a Pontiac tatoo).

I tried to upload the pics 3 times with no luck so have posted them to my Picassa album at the link below.

Ashmore, I owe you one, coffee, beer... whatever when we meet.

Intentions are to do the brakes and Electrical problem (Battery/Altenator) tomorrow then inventory parts prior to departing for Curacao until Thanksgiving. Complete the work over the Winter and have it's first road trip to PEI by June 2012.

Will keep posting pics, hopefully on the site.

Chuck

Will definetly look you up when I get over. I have a cottage in Georgetown on the Brudennel River so I am over as much as I can.

Carl: Thanks for posting the pics, I tried 3 times over 2 hours and it just hung up on the first pic.

Cheers

Chuck

Update 1. Well I have had some time with the Beau before I leave the country next week.

Complete front brake change on both sides. The back plate was rusted and bent and took out the cylinders.

Changed a wire to the Altenator, then took the Tachmeter to her for a rough setup.

Horn is being moved from a button on the coloum back to the wheel, there was a wire cut in the coulum.

There are a few pinholes in the headers so will leave that job for a while. Have to convert the choke back to exhaust, there is an Electronic one there now that keeps it wide open.

Full weatherstrip kit with felts ordered with hopes that it arrives before I leave. Needs 2 bushings and I think that will be it until the fall.

Nice to hear it run though.

Will try post the pics tonight.

Chuck

Thanks Pierre:

Yep by all accounts I consider myself pretty lucky to have this car. Every person that has had a look at it can't believe the shape that it is in.

Too bad I am leaving the country Saturday until Thanksgiving. Waiting on Insurance to change the ownership and get it registered and inspected. It is a vicious circle here in NS ( can't do 1 without the other and so on). Times like this I wish I was back in BC where it was 1 stop shopping with Icky Bicky.

Finally road worthy. Registered, Insurance and a 10 day grace for Inspection.

I had it out and shook it down at high speed and then my wife wanted to get behind the wheel and see what it was like.

Video is here:

Yep it does. The car has been drastically changed from its original.  Wanted to get it back to original but could be a long process and don't know if I am a big fan of the vinyl top.

Decisions.... Decisions.

I hear that. Felt like I was going to climb the bucket with my butt and back for the amount of pressure req'd. But the Drums will do for now as they are new so no conversion yet.

Hurricaine Irene is interfering with my travel. Flight from Halifax to NYC and Miami have been Cx'd. On the bright side, at least one more day on the car :)

Update: Well having been out of country for 5 of the last 8 months has not helped. Interior is removed and ready for new panels. Got lucky last week and purchased more power. A 355 with a 400 rear and a demon double pumper. 425 miles on the Engine. Dynoed @ 422hp. The plan is slowly coming together. Hopefully Off to the body shop within 2 weeks then paint and back together. Settled on a period color 1968 "Meridian Tourquoise" K 13517.

Still need some bits and pieces - 4 Hubs, 2 "Custom" logos and a radio.

Have not decided on a Harness yet, any input would be appreciated.

Pics to follow.

Thanks everyone for your support and knowledge.

Chuck

Henry and Beaumont 018 - Copy.JPGWell after many attempts to upload. Here is a panoramic stitch of the Beau, "gutted" on its way to the body shop. Discovered a lot of surface rust under the carpets especially on the passenger side. Nothing major everything appears solid. Car was out uncovered with bad window felts which accounts for the rust.

Mother said it smelled much better than it did a month ago.

On a side note, I completed my first purchase from a member today. Kevin aka Lueger68 graciously offered to sell me the hubcaps off his "famous partsr" car. Both buyer and seller were very happy with the result. Decided to go back to original look after my attempt to save the Cragar rims failed.

As always thanks everyone for having a great place to hangout.

Holy crap Terry, you are absolutely right and with that my apologies. Brain cells work but there are not that many to go around. On a good note the book is not gathering dust on a shelf but getting dirty in the garage.

Update 3: Well finally after some personal setbacks and drastic changes the Beaumont is in the shop to get finished (body and paint).

After much discussion with family and friends I let the Big Block go and have decided to do a Vortec Conversion. I know there are some that might believe this is wrong and I have no problem with that opinion but for me and future family owners we think this is the way to go. This decision was brought about that me or my son the next owner will not be selling it. There are a lot of upsides to the conversion not to mention long cruising but second the availibilty of parts is virtually unlimited. Have gone with a 5.7 Vortec and a 700R Tranny for the setup. The Hardest decision was the Oilpan and Headers. Going with a Rochester 4 BBL and adding an inline low pressure fuel pump. We have also decided to pay hommage to my old ACADIAN and are painting it  Cordovan Maroon but adding a bit more black.

I would personnaly like to reiterate my thanks to all on this site who have sent me books, hubcaps, steering columns, advice and much more to complete this project. I value all your opinions good or bad that is the sign of a community helping each other out. And finaly to Todd who without this site I would not have stumbled upon the greatest bunch of "car nuts" on the web. Your effort is grealy appreciated.

Chuck

Will post picks when the paint is done.
