That engine produced 289 HP. 4 speed cars could get  to 60 MPH in about 7.5 seconds and hit 90 MPH in the quater mile in just under 16 seconds. Basically the same performance as a 1964 GTO.

Interesting piece of Studebaker history.

R-2 Supercharged Avanti engine with a four speed in a wagon.

Don't see that every day! Thanks.

That IS pretty BIZARRE! (& interesting)

Personally,I have a tough time swallowing the "factory" 4 speed claim.

( it looks like an aftermarket install on the shifter)

A 3 speed manual with overdrive would have been more typical of the car & era.

The 4 speed was offered on the Lark platform in '63. When I had my 63 I had all the parts to convert it to a 4 speed. The 4 speed hump was actually fiberglass.

4speedparts.jpg 4 SPEED GOODIES!

I even had a correct rebuilt T10.

Should have kept that one...

4 speed R2 Stude takes on a GTO. Zoinks! And yes, I'd still rather own the GTO.
