65 SD hard top . May feature car

well.. looking for ideas on what to ask for my car.  engine is out and may not be going back in.  So.. IF.. I was to sell it.. does this sound like "dreaming?"

appraised at 55k

realistic ask 45k with engine installed and 40 without..

cost - over 60k..

looking for input.. it's too expensive to live in BC to insure, and the tax bill I just got from the accountant.. well.. you know.. toys first.

I wish I had the money. I would have to sell you mine to buy yours. How often does a real 283 4spd 65 Beaumont SD come up for sale. Next to none. There is no bench mark for the price. I would have to sell one of my done 65 SD Beaumont rags for 25K and come up with the rest. I feel your pain on the tax bill. They hit me for 10K 2 yrs ago.

Wow. I don't know. It's sure not the greatest time to be selling.

I wish it was something I could do but I'm afraid it's not even a dream, let alone a possibility.

These days it seems anything over 30K does not move real fast.

What is happening with the engine? What was wrong?

thats cool guys.. I appreciate the input.. I just want to be realistic.. I know if I had to do it again, I would probably wait until someone, like myself, just went through the pain of a restoration, and then buy it for 1/3 off, or more, of whats into it. I knew that going in..

the engine.. well.. I'm going to get a second opinion before I fill you in on that. I have to pay the couple hundred bucks to the shop that pulled it apart, but I'm not sure about getting them to put it back together with new parts.. so far.. conn rod bearing was definitly gone.. but I havent seen anything for myself yet.

more to come on that note..

Hate to see you sell that one Kelly. After seeing how much work and $ you put into that amazing restoration it must be hard to put it up for sale. I hope you get a fair price for that car. As far as price goes ask what you want and hope for the best. Good luck.

Well Kelly I even hate commenting on this thread but I always seem to have an opinion for it. I guess first thing would be regarding the engine would it cost 5 grand to fix it up? Hopefully there would not have been much damage and it could be repaired for a lot less. The other take on it if it does cost you 5 to do it and you only get 3 more for it you are better off to sell it as it is. I sure wish somehow you could hang in there for awhile yet and at least get some enjoyment out of it. So often I see high dollar cars done and they only get 50 cents on the dollar when they are sold. Hopefully you could do better because yours is a completely fresh restoration. Only trouble is when they get over 20 a lot of guys are eliminated and some of the guys around here that have the bucks don't even look twice at the Beaumonts. It is either Chevelles, Camaros, Hemi cars, few Mustangs, or rods. Hang in there.

Knowing this is not the original motor for the car and as said above the car may bring only 5o cents on the dollar there are a few complete big blocks out there that have the builders into large coin and can sell them for half of what they have into them. I would by a big block to put back in the car. It would bring more interest for resale

Interesting idea on putting a bbc in there for resale!...if nothing else a 327...it sounds better than 283 and won't cost you much of anything to get one in there... Selling price is very difficult on this one... Beaumonts are rare, but the values aren't there compared to the rarity...the market isn't there... a nice numbers SS in that year can be had for upper 20s to mid 30s...

it all sounds like a a total drag, but what would make u buy it??

what price would make you buy the car if you came across the same quality car

in the same situation, engine in or out of it ect... its hard because its your own

car, but realistlicly what number would make you first  get your attention and drive

over, then maybe make a deal?

all very realistic thoughts.
the sale is not in stone, but it's starting to look pretty certain. 50 cents on the dollar is about right for a restoration on an "unknown" rare car like this. The 327 that was in it was as correct as possible without tracking down an original 283 (prefer the 327)..
I thought a 5k difference on the price with or without the engine was a fair difference because of the 2k to 3k price of the rebuild, and time and effort it takes to put it in.. not everyone has a shop to do those tasks, and SOME of the people that may look at it for the price MIGHT not have the ability to put it in on they're own.. so.. if your paying a shop to do it for you.. it's pricey!!

after going through the restoration process on this car and knowing full well whats involved.. I'd be willing to buy one for 30 to 40k on a similar restoration.. but would try for 25 to 30k to chisel the price down, of course.. who wouldnt?

the next couple weeks will tell what needs to take place...
lots of parts to sell first I guess. LOL

What a bad situation to be in Kelly. It's hard to come up with expendable cash for a toy when the taxman is breathing down your neck. I understand why you can't rebuild the motor at this time.
If I were in the same situation I would start unloading parts first then see where it gets you. You don't want to sell this car and turn around and do another one so the parts, although it is nice to have spares, may never get used anyways.
I think the best thing to do is have a running motor in the car for resale. Even if it is not the best motor at least it is running. There are still lots of cheap, running small blocks out there, maybe not the correct year but running.
I agree with some of the others that once you get over the 20K or 30K mark your buyers are limited and the market has been pretty flat all year so with fall approaching it won't likely get better until next spring.
