RE: 58 Strato Chief 4 door sedan - what's it worth?

Why is there never any 2door '58's around for a decent price? I mean under $6000 for a decent driver.

Rare 1958 2 dr post, this car has no motor or trans, glass is good, has rust on the rear quarters and trunk area, trim is missing from both sides, but would make a great project.

I paid 4500 $ five years back for my 58 Pathfinder. The interiour was redone, the paint

shiny. Still driving since then, no trouble at all and it´s saftied, no antique license plate.

But at the moment i replace the rockerpanels and the trunk floor.

Frame is still A1. ( But no NovaScotia winters the last 20 years )

I think they can only rise up with the prices...........wink

Actually picture this car white with red roof and side inserts and the CP logo on the front doors. That would be kind of cool!.. Maybe I better call my accountant..

WOW it is so SAD! that these cars do not seem to be worth anything. Obviously from reading all this here, this car is almost worth more as scrap. I say this in a very pesimistic way because i thing the car is worth more. But that is just me because i love these cars. Man is this what the old car hobby has come to. I would hate to imagine what my restored, fully optioned and everything rebuilt 1957 Pontiac Pathfinder Deluxe four door sedan is worth. I may be lucky to get chump change according to the way of thinking these days. I have never built and owned any car looking to get rich down the road, just hopeing to break even at best. Seeing cars on the market these days and give away prices are not giving them away. That tells me that our ecomomy is far worse than even i ever thougth. Todd this car is worth what the guy is asking and if you do not think it is worth it, then i do not under stand why you would pander any more thoughts on the matter. It really is hard to have any positive outlook on our hobby when you consider our cars are not worth a whole lot. In 1996 i spent just over $5.000 on chrome on my 57 Pontiac and that was a real good price then. Considering the present sad situation in our hobby obviously cars are worth more when you part them out, even when they are good solid cars. All this !@#$ makes me want to drink heavily. Cheers. George.

I hear you George :beers:

Right now it is a buyer's market. There are also reluctant sellers that are a little desperate. If you want to get in on the ground floor with a project and you are willing to do it yourself then it is little up front. Just don't add up the receipts later unless you like to undervalue your time. If you are paying someone, you are better off getting the best car you can afford otherwise you will be in upside down.

It's not worth $3500, plain and simple. It's a plain jane Strato Chief. It needs lots of body and interior work. I suspect it needs a complete going over of the brakes. Tires are likely toast as well. If it were worth $3500 it would be sold by now. I think the Canadian price guide is pretty accurate on this one.

Lets look at a few cars I have purchased for less than $3500 in the recent past:

I paid $1000 for this one:

I paid less than $3500 for this one:

I bought this Corvair Monza (orig paint), running for under $1500

I paid $1000 for this one. It needed a trans. I got a trans for $25.

I'm not lucky at finding these cars, just savvy and I do my homework.
